Thai Civilized party leader proposes legal brothels and adult shops to reduce rape

Mongkolkit Suksintharanont

Thai Civilized party leader, and member of the House committee studying ways to reduce rape and other sexual violations, Mongkolkit Suksintharanont, has proposed that Thailand should permit regulated and licenced brothels and sex toy shops as a way to address the problem.

The controversial government MP said in his Facebook post on Wednesday that he would raise his proposal with committee members at their first meeting, scheduled to take place yesterday.

Explaining the logic behind his idea, Mongkolkit said that it must be understood that humans, by nature, are born to reproduce. Any laws and cultural norms about sexual activity came later, making humans different from other animals.

Legalize prostitution (which for now, does not exist in Thailand...wink wink...), tax it, organize the sex- workers, protect them AND the customers.

Just act like a normal, civilized country!

But we all know, it will not happen!

A) because the ruling class is so far out of touch with everyday life, they don't even acknowledge, there might be a problem

B) the police can not make a cut of the "illegal" establishments

as are many of the illegal gambling dens, makes it easy for them to make sure everything is above board before raids are done unless the army does them without telling the police. Big problem in Thailand are the ones that run the illegal establishments, higher ups that have a position that enables them to do as they please, this is why they will not legalize prostitution or gambling, there is too much money to be made by the ones that are able to control them

If you look at it from a civilized and intelligent point of view. But that’s not what we’re dealing with here.

The problem is the brothels aren't free, therefore it will not solve the problem of rape. Thailand is already a brothel.

Interesting, On that map Spain is blue. In fact in Spain prostitution is not legal but is behind the curtain i.e. not enforced. Brothels operate in plain sight but are licenced as hotels or nightclubs.

The UK as usual can't make it's mind up.

How does legitimizing an industry that already exists and defines Thailand, reduce rape?

Has he actually done research to realize Thailand IS a giant brothel.

It couldn't become more brothelized...and yet rape happens.

Explain that one, Mong.

Won't work in many cases. Do you think a Thai laborer full of Lao Khao will go looking for a legal brothel where he will have to pay several day's wages when he gets the urge? And those with money wont worry because they are above the law!

I would vote for him.  Pattaya could be as much a famous family destination as it could be a brothel.  Currently, Pattaya does not offer much in the way of legal brothels.

...or family destination.

That’s like saying that armed robbery has nothing to do with obtaining money, it’s about power and forcing a person to submit. The rapist may not have a conscious wish to procreate, but it’s still a behaviour that can lead to procreation, especially before modern medical science. Doesn’t make it any less serious a crime of course.

And how do you know this? Supposedly no police of any department force are allowed to own or have a stake in any entertainment venues. But the one down from the steel bridge on the river sure has some hot chickie poos sitting outside.

Same as prostitution. What's your point?

Anytime a criminal act is decriminalized it takes away an opportunity for the police to make money. Not gonna happen.

boom boom...

so let's start with the sister of this genius politician...than cousins...than an auntie or two...i am sure they won't mind to contribute their fare share for the sexual welfare of humanity.

the positive thing in this imo is that it reduces police corruption,

im all for it

Does it means soi 6 saved by the bell?

He always makes some noise to get some more "bananas".

Not so long a go he came up with the idea of having a new national anthem. He said that the one we have today, has no line about honoring the monarchy and the Royal family thus the new one needs to embed it in the new national anthem. Hence he needed more bananas!

His party is a one-man party with only about 45,000 votes, and he got the seat in the parliament because of the "right" system in order to remain in power of the junta. He himself once "was" the head of a gangster in his local area... try to figure out how much credibility he has.

That is a very poor argument. Nobody is talking about forced prostitution. Regulation can reduce trafficking.

fair share.

Does anyone really believe that old feminist line?

Rape is more like theft IMHO, 'you have something I want, but I can't afford the price tag, so I'll just help myself'

I mean, OK maybe there's a few nutters that fit your ideology, but most convictions it's guys they knew and/or dated.

and it's free. You really see a wannbe rapist saving his money till the weekend ?

Yeah, and Thailand has zero prostitutes today so that's why there's so much rape in Thailand. If there only was prostitution in Thailand the rape problem would go away.
