Pattaya TAT: Never mind about the Chinese for the next few months - We've got the Indians and Russians!

The Tourism Authority of Thailand in Pattaya have put a brave face on the current downturn in tourism from China due to group tours and others cancelling holidays in the wake of the coronavirus. 

 

TAT rep Pinnat Charoenphon admitted to 77kaoded there would be some problems over the next two or three months. But after that things would all be back to normal. 

 

In the meantime she said that Pattaya had the Indians and the Russians to fall back on. 

 

She told reporters that the Indian market had increased by 24% and Russians were visiting in large numbers again. 

 

Apart from these tourists there were Europeans and other Asians to take up the slack - not to mention ASEAN visitors from Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam. 

 

Then there were all the Thais coming to Pattaya as part of the "Thai Visit Thailand" campaign. 

 

Yes, things were all fine really despite the current difficulties, suggested Pinnat.

Well Russians are hardcore and won't mind flying into an epidemic, but I think you can forget the Indians.

Sweet Jesus have mercy on these fools(tat) as they know not what they do.

The TAT could spin a trip to hell to sound like a trip to heaven.

The problem is, nobody would believe them because they've lost their credibility.

If this spreads, as it already has to many countries, the planes will not only be empty, but will stop flying.

 

TAT seems to have quickly abandoned and insulted their highly prized Chinese tourist. They no longer matter.

 

With the General stating this virus is 100% under control here in Thailand, I am sure the TAT numbers will show a substantial increase in the 1st quarter.

 

No problem here, please move on.

The Indians are living with it for centuries already - immune against anything.

The ladyboy shows seem to a fixture on the itinerary of every Chinese tour party, so I should imagine the likes of Tiffany's, Alcazar and the Colosseum are not very confident that the Russians and Indians will help them.

I swear the people running the show have no idea about what is happening now or days into the future. Anybody with half a brain can see that in 2-4 weeks, most cities and towns will be much like Wuhan is now. Considering the incubation period of 5-14 days rarely comes with symptoms, it is already spread among many people at this very moment. The virus first appeared around 5 weeks ago in Wuhan, and look how things are there today, and that is after they have closed schools, locked down cities ect. Thailand still has yet to close anything and it's business as usual, unlike other countries. 

The tourism industry is going to be non existent for at least a few months sooner or later, and the fact they are caring more about money than their own people speaks volumes

Because they bring enough of their own problems with them. 

Just witnessed 3 indian guys bargaining for more or less 10 minutes at a mango shop on Pattaya Klang. They wanted to buy 1 single mango for 40 bahts instead of 50 bahts.

But they spend much more than chinese so it's fine, Thailand is saved.

I can understand them doing so.  The mango is only 20 baht, if you are Thai.   ????

I saw the President of the World Tourism Authority speaking to Alajazeera....she said for any Tourism industry to return back to norm would be minimum 19 months+Chinese Tour Operators have cancelled all their Group Tours+ They have instructed all tour operators that penalities will be severe, Russian Tourists aren't happening as I hear, Indians only need to be scared from their respective Health Authorities ....Pucket and Chiang Mai 40%less occupancy than last year.... Don't know Pattaya TAT knows... ??????????

Thai government scares me - they are more worried about tourism than health. Everything she said sounds to me like if the Chinese government didn't cancel travel, the Thai government would let in as many Chinese people as it can, from anywhere in China, including Wuhan

The TAT are always so lucky.

 

When tourist numbers and / or revenue are down, there's always something for them to blame, other than their department.  From tsunamis to volcanoes, and military coups to viruses, it's never the TAT's fault.  ???? 

Come to Thailand, we have high prices, dual pricing and now, Hunan virus!

More than that, I am surprised that no one has noted that besides the Chinese (not anymore), the Russians and the Indians, tourists from other nationalities do not count at all for TAT!

 

They are never mentioned, as if them coming to Thailand or not wouldn't matter in the least.

 

After all, what are (on average) poor Germans, English or Americans compared with wealthy Indians...
