Popular Post webfact
Virus side-effects on tourism By THE NATION Fewer tourists were seen on Saturday (February 1) at the Temple of the Emerald Buddha or Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram and the adjacent Grand Palace in Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok. One of the most popular tourist attractions in Bangkok has been visited only by small groups of foreign tourists who had either arrived in Thailand by chartered flights or have been staying in the Kingdom since before the outbreak of the new coronavirus, which has substantially impacted the number of foreign tourists throughout the country. Even those visiting the temple on Saturday were wearing face masks to protect themselves from infection. The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce has forecast that if the outbreak prolonged until March, it could cost the Thai tourism industry between Bt80 billion to Bt100 billion or between 0.5 percentage point and 0.7 percentage point of the country’s gross domestic product. The number of Chinese tourist arrivals in Thailandis expected to decline by 2.4 million in the first half of this year as a result of the novel coronavirus outbreak in the country, according to TMB Analytics, an economic analysis division of TMB Bank. One guy on the net that seems to be on the level with statistics , puts forward the theory that mid to end of April will be the peak. If it continues to rise with 2% death rate of infections then March seems a pathetically bad assumption. Thai tourism has gone for this year. The theory of 'I survived the Wuhan flu I really need a Thai holiday' is a pipe dream. Better to shut up shop for the year and protect what you have and you own people. Buy hey, money talks and some TAT general will be made to look bad if they dont talk up ridiculous predictions 5
Popular Post fforest1
If the tourist numbers are down till March?.....I bet the Corona mess might very well be lasting longer than this.... On the bright side look for record low shrimp prices in the markets... Edited February 2, 2020 by fforest1 2
tropo
The photos are pointless unless they can provide some photos showing a normal day at the temple before the virus scare to compare with. I still see plenty of people there.

I invite you to look at Thailand aquaculture and judge for yourself.
Vascoda
Pattaya looks serene with only Russian and Indian tourists and without group tour Chinese buses that hog small pattaya alleys. Beer bars were doing some business but not as much as before.
phantomfiddler
Geez, how many tourists do they want ! It looks reasonably busy to me, as were the beach pics posted the other day. Sometimes I thing the government will only be satisfied when there are 5 tourist per square metre, and it is obvious that in many areas there is an ecological inability to deal with so many ????

Mavideol
TAT put all their (Chinese) eggs in the same basket, (pushed westerners out) and here is the outcome.... someone once said "everything that happens to you is a result of your own actions"
eryomia
Too bad = ( I had a trip to Thailand planned. I wanted to relax with my family. But I decided to postpone the trip due to outbreaks of the virus. I hope this epidemic stops and it will be possible to travel.

Yes you are right the tour buses were a nightmare but you are wrong about the air quality, unfortunately the AQI is still at more than 150 at the moment (Unhealthy for sensitive groups) https://www.airvisual.com/thailand/chon-buri/pattaya and even with the actual wind, the fog is still present like you can see on my photo just taken now from my balcony (13h30 2/3/2020) you can see the Pattaya tower in Pratamnak but hardly see the Jomtiem condos they are all in the ''smoke''
