It seem that Korat Immigration has changed for the better treatment of foreigners reporting. First thought a Sign on the back of a Thai lady saying, "Immigration Voluntary", who reviews all papers who come thru the entrance door. No one is allow  to pass without being verify requirements are present.  I was told all passport must be Portrait style copy.  She ignored me when I ask where it shows in regulations? However she is over work with two many foreigners left standing in the heat. She could use as many as four more staff. New Boss does not sit in private office but rather right out front and helps with questions rejected by "Immigration Voluntary" person.

I hear Last boss from CM is gone from all new staff in a very nasty taste in their mouth. Staff Pictures show all new men and only one Lady on the wall.

The thinking seems that they are the Honest Bunch and that is all that counts! But do they know the information. The New system show Long term foreigners for re-newel go to one counter, Short timers another. Staff are most helpful to answer your question when you sit down of the section lady.

Out of bounds question is Permanent  Residency, a strictly Bangkok issue! Next they not solved the problem of A Separate Cashier Department. You see in Hospital, Restaurants,  Bars and Embassy all have, but not at Korat Immigration. Also you can not pay my Bank check or Debit car! They write one receipt and put the book and money back in their desk drawer, unlock? Corruption picture still exist.

I keep having the thought one day an evil attack on one immigration Office? Screening should be done for weapons and bombs! All staff behind counter of re-enforced glass for protection. Old manger was so hard and not respect people feelings that if a problem exist, no one would try to sort out problem if long stayers told to leave Thailand. One exist to my friend killing himself of such a problem after he married and build a home for his family 20 years living in Thailand.

The system is just too much you could never write a Manuel of the rules to follow.

This visit I got a re-entry Visa and was told I had Three days to report I return to home after overseas visit to my kids. I go straight home from Airport? She said their computer shows nothing about the TM 6. If true I have to have a TM30 of which I not have as I stay home. So why not clean up mess of being so complicated? Corruption. could be as it would be a chance to collect a bride.

So we all will just have to wait and see how the Thai government will preform on our futures?

Thank you

Sergeant - If you have a 5 year Thai Driver's License, hope you are happy being sent to Korat Immigration by the License place to get a letter and they ask for 500 Baht and you will not receive a receipt.  The money is split between Immigration and the Motor Vehicle place.

I got this letter for free at the Amphoe in Pak Chong. I needed some copies to be done, but my faithful printer at home is always glad to help me...

I have a friend who reports there, not a busy office as not too many foreigners there, still as bent as 9 Bob notes.

His pensions exceed the required 65 k per month, but because one is paid quarterly and they couldn't do the math they said no to his retirement extension,

It cost him 20 k baht paid to the top lady to make it right, that was not long after the new rules came Into force. It left a very sour taste in his mouth.

Really? What is your status? Long stay visa? Yellow house book? Serious questions because I have always gone to Korat Immigration to get a residence letter - the Amphur at Pak Chong would be far easier for me.

I use Korat Immigration and I have had no issues with them at all. I agree that they are generally polite and helpful.

@mod / @moderator of ThaiVisa Forum

On reading the above post (and many other TVF posts), I remembered reading a recent TVF article of the Top IO boss visiting one of his local IOs and telling them to be more customer-friendly to foreigners using the IO services.

So I think it would be a great idea if the TV Forum would launch an annual TVF Immigration Office of the Year Award.

Some ideas/suggestions on how to do this:

  • Each year during a particular month, TVF members would have the opportunity to rate their local IO both OVERALL as well as on several aspects, e.g. responsiveness / waiting times / flexibility / customer-friendliness / attitude / transparency / no surprises / etc.
  • Each TVF member can only vote for his own office, and each aspect can be scored on a 5 Point scale > e.g. 0 = Terrible / 1 = Poor / 2 = Needs improvement / 3 = Moderate OK / 4 = Good / 5 = Excellent
  • Considering that there are Mega-offices and small offices, it would be fair to have 3 categories: Very large offices (e.g. CW, CM, ...) / Moderate-size offices (e.g. Chiang-Rai, Ubon) / Small offices
  • At the end of the 1-month voting period, the scores would be calculated.  To avoid results-distortion, only offices that got at least 5 TVF members voting for them, would be contenders for the Awards
  • Awards could be given for
    • Best large / moderate / small Office (based on OVERALL score)
    • Some of the aspects rated, e.g. a Customer-Friendly Award, a Responsiveness Award, etc.
  • When less than 5 offices in a specific category only 1 Award to be given, when between 5-10 offices in a specific category a Gold and Silver Award for #1 and #2 to be considered, when more than 10 offices in a specific category a Gold, Silver and Bronze Award to be considered
  • Awards could simply be a nice Certificate, that the winning Office can hang in its premises (and allowed to make copies when they want to hang them at various places in their office)

Considering thai management preference for showing that they are #1 and a Winner, such an Award scheme would for sure catch the attention of the Top IO bosses (and thus also of their local IO acolytes).

Just an idea, but TVF would be the ideal Forum to organize this.

I think I know to whom you refer, but the need to have payments EACH month has been very clear from the start rather than a question of maths. I extended my visa there last month and they’d told me on a visit several months prior that they didn’t care if the code on the bank statement didn’t show  international transfer (mine didn’t) as long as monthly payments were made. I took in my fx slips as support anyway as they suggested that might be helpful too. I had no problems.

Notwithstanding the 20k payment ,at least he had the option to 'cure' it that way but the alternative, which I’m sure he’d not have preferred, was simply to deny his extension.

It’s not perfect but the lesson here  is find out what they want beforehand and  seek to comply rather than make assumptions which are outside the stated rules anyway.

Your point is well made & well taken, and I fully understand the immigration rules (I think ???? ) but this guy is in his mid 70's has no internet or smart phone and I pass on as much info as I can to inform him of any major changes that may affect him, I think he is either changing from quarterly payments to monthly or back to a marriage extension.

And in your first sentence did you mean my mate or the immigration officer ? ???? Cheers.

I meant your friend and am aware of his circumstances as you described (I hope his foot gets better too!). I don’t know how he manages without internet etc.but he’s fortunate to have you looking out for him! ????

I’d agree with your suggestion of the simpler 400k in the bank marriage route in his circumstances. Even those of us who are internet savvy and perhaps more worldly wise in the affairs of immigration should be reminded that here you can’t take anything for granted ,even when complying with the rules! ????
