In the immediate wake of the outbreak of the coronavirus visitors from China were down 20%. But now it is more like 80%. Compared to last year there were only 143,000 Chinese visitors to Thailand in the week from January 24th to the 31st. This was around 200,000 down on last year or 58%. Losses to the tourism sector are now being reported as 9.1 billion baht. The three areas most hit were sellers of products and souvenirs, hotels and food and beverage outlets, said the media.
