webfact
Video: Tales of the Unexpected.....and a 400 baht fine! Thai caption: What would you do if this happened to you? Picture: 77kaoded Dash cam footage from a car in Krabi in southern Thailand showed the surprise moment when hundreds of sacks of cement and the pallets they were resting on flew off a truck trailer at a bend in the road and caused the car to brake suddenly and get covered in debris. The truck driver was fined just 400 baht. Ratha was driving her Honda CRV along the Pela - Thapsai road on Sunday evening. It was lucky there were no injuries, reported 77kaoded. It took the local authority 3 hours to clear up the mess. Capt Sayam Sorn-in of the local police said that the trailer was going from Thing Song in Nakhon Sri Thammarat to make a delivery of 500 sacks of cement in Phuket. The driver claimed an old man was crossing the road and caused him to veer and brake sharply. The two parties got together at the police station and everything was settled by the company's insurance. Police fined the trucker 400 baht for negligence. Popular Post richard_smith237
There you have it - the absolute apathy towards safety enforcing and enabling both employer and driver to take shortcuts on any safety measures thus placing everyone around them at additional risk. Significant and enforced fines along with regular spot checks of these vehicles are the only things which will stop these lethal events from occurring. Fortunately this time this incident didn’t involve death to an innocent party, it so could easily have been a tragic event. Not an accident, negligence, this was caused by pure and simple apathy by both employer, driver and enforcement.
ezzra
This is Thai on Thai justice, as long as they do it to each other on the cheap and ridiculous let it be, but a Thai on foreigner of vice-versa it's another story... 1

Watching the video shows no evidence of an old man crossing road immediately before the 'accident'. What it does show is the lorry driver coming round the bend at a hell of a speed. Was the fine of '400 Baht fine for negligence' for failure to hit the old man crossing the road? It couldn't be for negligence to secure the goods on the lorry surely. 4

gk10002000
from the video and stills, I see pallet wood all over the place so it looks like the pallets just slid off the truck. So they fork lifted the pallets of cement on to the truck but did not anchor, run some steel straps through the pallet slits.
Samuel Smith
Why didn't he use his windscreen wipers, then no need to stop ????
Tonyt00
The Honda was defiantly at fault, if the driver was not sleeping, he could have used his reverse gear, and backed out of the trouble! or just used his wipers, and kept going, not wasting peoples time. In the video, you could see the ghost of an old man walking across the road.
