Visa exempt for Chinese and Indian tourists proposed to boost tourism in Thailand

Featured Replies

The norwegian air shuttle last airplane will leave thailand in the end of next month and after that there will be no more cheap flights from sweden, norway and denmark. 50% increase of exchange rate and rising living expenses in thailand including new double price for foregners in govnernment hospitals and no more cheap flight tickets make me think thailand will attract very few scandinavians in the years to come. Scandinavians dont like to go to india and if thailand will be little india in the future i will think thailand would be one of the least attractive tourist destinations for scandinavians and maybe most europeans. The immigration trouble for long stayers and 24 hours registration for every moment with fines will keep the retired away too. It will be intersting to see how thailand changes 10 year from now

  • Free visas for people from a country which is rife with Corona Virus- classic!

  • What a Joke

  • While I don't believe all the media hype surrounding this coronavirus outbreak, virtually no other country in the world is courting Chinese tourists in the middle of all this. Thailand is joined only

I think indians don't want Scandinavians in their country too. Who knows what socialist values they might bring with them and india will go back 50 years from now.

I never seen truckload of Scandinavians in Thailand. After paying 60percent taxes to the socialist government , i think they have little left for paying for thai honey. And we all know. No money. No honey.

Never mind visa's for free. Thailand should be closing it's boarders to China till the coronavirus is under control.

Should close the borders too!

Get yourself back on tripadvisor then, and continue your 'there's nothing to see, everything good good' routine.

Seeing a fair few videos online of people from China going to Thailand, to get away from the virus. Ironically bringing the virus with them.

What a lot of daft old xenophobes there are in this forum, I wonder why any of them ever left their own countries. And please, spare me the 'But, but the Thais are xenophobic too', didn't your mum teach you that two wrongs don't make a right?

Xenophobes in what sense?

Hong Kong (which is owned by China!!), Japan, Singapore, Russia, India, Vietnam - the countries neighbouring China have temporarily banned incoming passengers from China. WHO even says this is a sensible precaution to make.

Yet, Thailand hasn't - despite it being the biggest tourist destination for China. Worrying about this, doesn't make one xenophobic.

It's too late, Thailand Authorities have failed to treat visitors as human instead of ATM machines.

Arrogance is not the way to welcome tourists. People decide when and where they intend to spend

their money to. Contrary to what the Authorities believe, value for money is what the people expect

to find, plus courtesy and a true welcome. Let's not forget there are many other countries that can

match Thailand scenery and food.

At least as of 12FEB, Japan has only banned entry to specific provinces of China per the KyodoNews and KyodoNews has posted no info on further China travel bans:

Japan extends entry ban to visitors from China's Zhejiang Province
KYODO NEWS - Feb 12, 2020 - 09:09

TOKYO -- Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Wednesday that Japan will bar foreign travelers from China's Zhejiang Province effective Thursday, in an additional measure to contain the global coronavirus outbreak.

Entry will also be denied to holders of Chinese passports issued in the eastern Chinese province.

Japan has already taken a similar step targeting visitors from Hubei Province whose provincial capital is Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak.

I am in Thailand right now, and I am more upset that the Thai government has basically stated, that

Wednesday is anti-tourist day.  How? you may ask. Well they ordered the beach vendors to

not put up umbrellas or rent out beach chairs on the beaches at Pattaya, Hua Hin, and likely many

more places along the coasts of Thailand. Yes it is the middle of the week, but that is the

reality of Thailand. No one can tell me why they are ot allowed to operate, but say that they will be

shut down if they disobey. Another reason not to come to this backward country. Just my opinion of course. I am just one tourist.

Where's the point? Anyone with a decent brain will know that's a crock. The word's out already.

Hmmm. My Mum alwys used to say that small things (and big words) please small minds. While bigger fools look on in sympathy.

Do you think she was right?

One man's xenophobe is another man's astute observer.

Finally some decent Indian restaurants.

I think they will have a huge increase in overstays if this should happen.  easy free visa will likely encourage more to come on a shoe string budget and then given even the current demographics many will just stay and try to blend in.

the borders to China should be closing rather than swinging wide open

Lack of safety at sea and on the roads, obvious greed, two tier pricing, Thais thinking they are superior to any other nationality, Police collecting fines from motorcyclists, the extremely strong Baht (the real killer) and little intervention to get it lower. Have I missed anything, yes, the shift in making visas for anyone wanting to stay more than 30 days a lot of hassle. Now they scratch their heads and wonder how the beauty of the Andaman etc has gone wrong. The fact is with so many airlines, many budget airlines the world is a small place. SE Asia has many beaches outside of Thailand and just as attractive ladies at a far lower cost with easier visas. Hint, hint. Let them stew in their own mess.
