Anybody gotten the Non Imm O-X Long Stay Visa?

Featured Replies

Anybody gotten the Non Imm O-X Long Stay Visa?  I don't really like the financial lock up terms, but the longevity of the visa has some appeal.

I can only recall one person reporting they got one.

And I wonder, why?

IMO the O-X offers no real advantage and more negatives.  Although the Visa is good for multiple entry and permission to stay is 5 years, you still have to report to Immigration each year to show proof you still qualify (met and still meet financial requirements and still have health insurance from a Thai company) - so an annual trek to Immigration is still required, the same as it is for those on annual extensions of stay. You still have to do 90 day address reporting.  The financial requirements and restrictions are substantially more than that for the "O" or "O-A" Visa. Also, you must purchase an inadequate amount of health insurance from a Thai company on the TGIA listing (for a large annual premium - that will most likely increase with age, bar pre-existing conditions, & terminate at a certain age - which would then nullify the O-X permission to stay once there is no Thai health insurance available).

As I seem to recall, the only real "+" was that you can do volunteer work without having to get a Work Permit.

Hey @gk10002000 : Personally, I can't see the advantage, except you only have to deal with the 'issuing' people once every five years, but I'd bet they'll really put you through the ringer.  I'm sure 90 day reporting or 90 day border bounce would still be required.

I was typing my same opinion when you posted, but yours is so much better stated.
