I bet even the old fella driving a buffalo cart saw that one coming.

Dissolution of a political party is something you should never see in a democracy.

If the party is as evil as their enemies suggest, the populace should have the right to not vote for them.

Dissolving them only shows the fear those pulling strings have of a party that wants to make things fairer for the people.

Thailand Court Disbands Popular Opposition Party

Thai courts have a history of dissolving opposition parties. Critics call it judicial harassment aimed at smothering democracy.

I am bracing for the fallout as there will now be 10 immediate empty seats of MP's that Prayut will fill with more cronies, and the remainder of the FFP MP's have 60 days to change parties or?.

I totally agree.Actually Thailand has a long history of vengeful judicial harassment  across many sectors.

It is why it possesses such a thoroughly frightened and hive-like academic and intellectual class.

Toe the line or be economically, judially or physically harassed to the point of exile or oblivion if required.

They banned the party, those MP's are still MP's aren't they?

@Yinn Don't say I didn't warn you. Now that Thanathorn has been isolated, he'll face a few false charges and be imprisoned until people have forgotten about him.

On this occasion it's a lot more than revenge. it's a deliberate attempt to destroy any opposition that might provide a threat to the ruling elite.

Just a prelude, look out for 1st and 11th infantries.

I read and article today that stated that they have contingency plans to join a new party. I'd assume this is one of the small parties in the opposition faction. Thanathorn stated that he and his executives will continue to act outside of Parliament (and there has been a precedent for that!)

Well right now he's probably busy cleaning his idols house which he should have vacated.

Well I doubt they will give up and I hope they will keep active from outside of the parliament, but I won't be surprised if whatever they do / say they will get punished and severely. Sad...

I still enjoy my life in Thailand very much. But I ask myself more and more if I can and want my son grow up here. So sad...

There will likely be a high price to pay.

There will no doubt be peaceful demonstrations after this but only just for show.

They've been ready for ages. This article from 19 January was already talking about it: https://www.nationthailand.com/news/30380791

It is indeed a historical moment.

Long live the Communist party of Thailand!

It's a very sad day and the worst thing is it's against the law to object. I will wear black.

Hun Sen's opinion is unimportant.

Hun Sen is unimportant.

The SET index has been down most of the day but it turned closing up 3.85 on the dissolution of FF.
