BANGKOK (NNT) - Title: PM Prayut says government applies the principle of "Understand, Access and Develop" in South

During the no-confidence debate on Tuesday (Feb 25), the opposition commented on the government’s work to address problems in southern Thailand. The Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, said the government’s approach is based on the principle of "Understand, Access and Develop".

An MP from the Prachachat Party, Kamolsak Leewamoh, commented that the government is unable to fulfill its policy statement after failing to solve various issues in the South. Violations of human rights still occur and there is a lack of understanding of the law, especially the emergency decree and the martial law, even though they have been in force for 15 years.

The Prime Minister said the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) is in charge of security and development, while the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center’s (SBPAC) budget is used to develop local areas. All sides have to work together to ensure the balance of power as well as efficient spending.

The Prime Minister said representatives of Islamic organizations and states, who visited the South, lauded the government’s work, saying it should serve as a model for them to develop their countries.

Different commands are still necessary in some areas of the southern border provinces because the situation can be difficult to gauge at times. The government does not prohibit prosecution, and there are measures to help those affected. Speaking of the registration of mobile phone SIM cards in the South, Gen. Prayut said the government is not looking for benefits, but this is a necessary measure to help ward off bomb attacks and to protect civilians and their property .

"The appointing of the council is being done today. In the past, there might have been problems due to misunderstanding and the member selection process. I think that today, everything is in a better situation. It’s not just about looking at the statistics.

You said it’s not important, but I don’t think so because the figures indicate the level of violence in the area. You must admit that, when violence occurs, if you know the situation well, there is a conflict. If it is related to the Barisan Revolusi Nasional Melayu Patani (BRN), you should provide the information to the government and the ISOC, so we can solve the problem together. I don’t want to divide anyone.

When you say it’s an act of division, nothing will improve. Today, to solve the problem, we’re cooperating with other countries and international organizations, such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Islamic countries and ambassadors went to the area, and they were satisfied. I would like to inform you that the ambassadors are not my soldiers. They praised our work and said our work can serve as a model to resolve conflicts in other countries."

A bit thin on details as usual.   What ambassadors are these?   The ruling class of many countries seem to stick to together, like Michele Obama, Ellen Degeneres and Bush 43 hanging out.   Who are these "ambassadors" and why do they care?  More smoke being blown more like it.

I cannot see how appeasing people who haTe your guts can lead to a better future.  Eliminating the problems in the South needs a strong fist.   The government needs to geT tough.  Prayut is dreaming.
