Kuwait to check visiting ships for coronavirus, evacuate citizens from Thailand

 

 

CAIRO (Reuters) - Kuwait will check visiting ships for the new coronavirus before allowing them to dock and require crew members to stay on board as part of measures to prevent the spread of the disease, state news agency KUNA said.

 

Earlier on Friday, the Gulf Arab state confirmed two more cases of the virus in the country, bringing the total number of infections to 45, a Health Ministry official said.

 

Kuwait announced several precautionary measures on Thursday including forcing all flight passengers to sign a waiver that would make them subject to quarantine for a minimum of two weeks at the Kuwaiti authorities’ discretion.

 

Kuwait Airways will operate a flight to Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, to evacuate Kuwaiti citizens there, the information ministry said on Twitter on Friday.

 

The ministry said the flight from Bangkok would leave on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Bangkok time, and urged its citizens in Thailand to contact the embassy.

I was surprised to see Kuwaits neighbour Saudi introduce this form on the causeway from Bahrain .yesterday. Thailand not on the list.

The attached image is from a study projecting expected cases of coronavirus based on numbers of passengers on flights to from Wuhan. I for one do not understand why Thailand have so few cases that alone concerns me when the Kingdom receives over a million Chinese Tourists every year . I would be interesting to know how many Chinese are currently in Thailand there are a few in the villa next to me who came for Chinese New Year I am assuming that due to the virus they cannot get a flight home.

Think it is actually 1 million a MONTH, and for January was something like 1.4 million

Understanding? Dunno, but we could chose between:

a) Authorities are lying, deliberately, to protect the economy,

b) There is a large proportion of asymptomatic carriers in Thailand,

c) The Thais are ineffective in identifying and tracing the cases.

If you asked me I'd say that all a, b, and c are true.

I haven't seEn more than a few chinese in pattaya . Where are they?

Mapping  and asking where patients have been previously.

 

As an aside, this will hurt the profitable medical care business for Thailand. Many Gulf patients were sent to Thailand for some procedures. Ethically, one cannot continue to send vulnerable patients to a high risk of infection region.

Kuwait, 45 infected .. Thailand. 41... Am I missing something, other than those 4 ?

I understand why Kuwaitis is doing this.  I lived in Kuwait for years and before I could get a long term visa I had to go to a Government Hospital for a blood test and chest X-ray.  So now in LOS it will be devoid of Chinese and Middle East visitors. Wow, I can’t wait to see the Tourism numbers in the 2nd Quarter?

This is because Saudi Arabia doesn't allow its citizens to travel to Thailand, hence there are no direct flights between the two countries.

The pictured form is for the causeway from Bahrain, where Saudis drive to to fly to Thailand.

Its one flightload! Hardly noticeable.

An overreaction, just like the stock market. I saw a British expert on virus infections on youtube, the majority of people catching corona would have symptoms similar to a cold some would have no symptoms at all and some would have influenza symptoms, only those who are already compromised healthwise due to diabetes for instance could be in danger of sever symptoms or death. I can't understand the panic BS.

The corona virus virus would you choice to stay or leave Thailand if the government gave you a choice to evacuate at no cost to you and get you home to your own country. Where you could afford or even have free Medical treatment seems like a lot of Expat’s will be thinking about this. As Kuwait are going to evacuate its citizens. Or are Expat’s leaving already leaving?

For those just looking in and are unaware, this is because of the Blue Diamond Affair and the gunning down of Saudi diplomats allegedly by Thai Police hit squads in the centre of Bangkok during the day back in the late 90's.
