What do they know that we don't ?

  • Understanding? Dunno, but we could chose between: a) Authorities are lying, deliberately, to protect the economy, b) There is a large proportion of asymptomatic carriers in Thailand, c)

let me guess, next time you go to immigration :  x-chest ray + negative for corona or DEPORTATION ...

Think it is actually 1 million a MONTH, and for January was something like 1.4 million

From Jan 1st > Feb 20th it was 226,000. Doesn't sound a lot, but it's still 4,500+ per day.

Plot the "viral pneumonia" cases and see if that provides any insights. (https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/eng/situation.php)

That is really interesting - from 0 to 2,500 in just over a month...and ironically one of the main reasons people die from Corona.

I guess it's not difference to someone involved in a serious car accident who dies later in hospital from a "ruptured aorta"...instead of "hitting a tree at 130kmh and surviving until hospital".

Thai's are habitual liars to save face....and tourism. It's just their nature.

The numbers of Corona make zero sense given the open border policy and stagnant growth of Corona Vs. other countries.

As the doc said, we have all had a corona virus of one sort or another, the common cold and influenza are both a species of corona, yes its catching, just like a cold but that doesn't make it a danger to humanity, this isn't Ebola or the black death.

That's part of it, and I thought the same for a while, but if you look at the mortality rate which is 21 to 49 times(4.9% wuhan death rate where it was initially treated as a non threat) higher when compared to that of the flu (.1% mortality rate), if the same number of people are infected as the flu does, the number of dead will be through the roof. The flu kills 291,000 to 646,000 per year globally. Do the simple math and you will see why people are concerned and why drastic measures are being done to contain it: 6.11 million-31.654 million dead.

They know it's rampant in Thailand, just not reported. It ain't that deadly, after all, who's gonna go to a government facility and get quarantined. Probably had it myself - lung problems and what have you.

An overreaction, just like the stock market. I saw a British expert on virus infections on youtube, the majority of people catching corona would have symptoms similar to a cold some would have no symptoms at all and some would have influenza symptoms, only those who are already compromised healthwise due to diabetes for instance could be in danger of sever symptoms or death. I can't understand the panic BS.

Over time the more I have looked into this, the more I have to agree with you. This is just another strain, and affects those with weak immune systems or have pre-existing conditions.

Does anyone know how many people die on the roads worldwide, about 1.25 million, influenza, 500,000 plus, now no one is going out there and saying hey guys, the recovery rate is currently 45%-48% at the moment, and the death rate is around 3%-3.5%, ok, if it spreads as it is, the amount of people that die will increase but it's not as bad as we think it is when compared with other viruses, strains, etc, etc, and we are not all going to live forever so just take care, get out there and stay safe.

I am into the stock market and am not spooked by the 10% drop this week, I see it as an opportunity to buy up more stocks, .e. if you one has those reserves, and if the market keeps going south, one can either keep buying, or sit, and if sitting, collect the dividends until the stock market picks up again as it will, then reap the rewards for having the balls to go in, on the down.

If one were to look outside the square, one could think this was a man made virus, released a little too early, just prior to the (Chinese New Year) hoping the spread would happen after or as the 5 million Chinese were exiting China to spread the love to the world, creating a pandemic, mass panic, but even though it was a little early and with China's lag on closing its borders, it could have been worse as intended, so good job to the Chinese for closing it's borders down.

When the dust settles and people obtain more information, i.e. they will realise this one is not really that bad and the panic will subside, the markets will lift again and those who started this would have made sqillions and got away with it.

I suppose one could think of this as the new silent war where there is money to be made creating mass panic.

Just my two bobs worth, paranoid I am ?

And Indonesia has zero cases.

Clearly they have been consulting with the Thai government to ensure everything is 100% under control.

Those fatality rates are guesses as they don't know the number of undetected/unreported cases.Do the math on factual information and you realise you have no factual information but guesses.

I am not disputing your argument as we don't really know what's happened to all the workers who travelled home to their villages for the holiday.  But to down play the potential lethal impact if it gets totally out of control is nieve.  Look at how its developed in South KoRea, Japan,  Italy and Iran.

@FarFlungFalang Fair point, but should we do nothing, and end up with a possible disaster like that in Wuhan? I understand why the global heath community is trying to squash it even if it may not result in those huge numbers.

Could be right - and I suspect you are.   People die every year from Malaria - at least 400K per year.  But this is not about logic - it has become emotional, and when that happens logic is shouted down.  Stockmarkets have crashed and people are starting to panic.  And meanwhile the Thai Govt is obviously hiding the true statistics - like they do for road deaths.  It will probably slow down in March, but maybe it will not and then we will see how bad it can get.  One thing is for sure - it will eventually slow down the stock markets will bounce back.

But Thailand will be called out when this is over - and their economic figures/lies will also be strongly questioned. This could be the trigger for the inevitable collapse - the longer is goes, the harder it is going to be for them to avoid it.  People are already realising the economic poopoo they are now in after allowing China to have so much of the world's retail production in a third world communist state - that is going to change big time.  Thailand having also wed itslef under the Junta to China is going to feel the pain big time.

Why? Most of China went from level 1 security to level 3 these last few days Hubei excepted. Normal life is largely restored.

Did you just feel the need to say something dramatic?

I for one do not understand why Thailand have so few cases that alone concerns me when the Kingdom receives over a million Chinese Tourists every year . I would be interesting to know how many Chinese are currently in Thailand there are a few in the villa next to me who came for Chinese New Year I am assuming that due to the virus they cannot get a flight home.

Don't viruses die off in the heat? Well that's what Trump had said. ????

Not that the is anything wrong with it - but you are an over literal person. The joke is that it will soon be safer to be in China than Thailand (due to the under reporting, lack of containment measures - it will spread in Thailand worse than China) and therefore the Chinese will be evacuated from Thailand. The irony is though - he may be right.

Maybe they don't believe that Thailand can only have 41 confirmed cases considering the contact they have with China & Wuhan itself!

CNY saw thousands coming here but uncannily maintain some of the lowest figures?
