The Ratchaprasong intersection in Bangkok, usually teeming with tourists, wears a deserted look on Sunday morning as visitors from various countries such as China, who come to worship at the Erawan Shrine, now stay away out of the fear of Covid-19.

If they put on their public front, to maintain an air of being scared and pannicky

 - they might achieve the goal of keeping the hoards of foreigners away from bringing the virus in...

the rabid evacutees from infected countries, will flock to wherever (countries) that keep announcing they have it under 100% Control...

example:   Chinese flocking to Thailand instead

Hmmm.

I was in Terminal 21 Bangkok Friday. Seemed to be quite a few tourists about, farangs. Didn't see any Chinese though. Very few Indians.

Was in Old Siam yesterday. Again quite a few farang tourists in the mall and surrounding markets.

Roads were busy on both days.

Another 6am pic?

These could be 6 a.m. pics, indeed, but I'm not so sure. To compare, I live in Tokyo, whose commuter numbers and transit user numbers blow away those of any other city on earth, with several stations seeing a few million users per day, and I can assure you that there has been a massive drop in the number of people out and about not only early in the morning, but mid-day, afternoon, evening, night....all times of day. Saturdays in Sundays in Tokyo, the trains are essentially "full" all day Saturday and Sunday(not rush-hour death pack from hell full, but "full");however, I went to and from work as usual on Sunday, and I'd say the train and stations I use had only about 10-20% of the normal numbers of users - a full-on post-apocalypse feel. When I finish work on weekdays at 8 or 9 p.m., there are VERY low numbers of people scuttling to the stations like rats - a small fraction of what is usual. It's almost surreal. Basically, I think people who have to go to work do, but anyone else is hunkering down at home, and foregoing any type of non-essential shopping, eating, drinking, or fun. Personally, I'm glad people are staying home. Makes for fewer flu and other infections flying around for those of us who have to go out to work every day.

Thank you for a first hand observation and info about the effects the virus is having

My wife flew out of Heathrow to Bangkok yesterday on the Thai Airways A380.  She phoned me from the plane before take-off to say it was 75% full.  Only a handful of people were wearing masks at that point, most of them being westerners.  I was surprised that there were so many on the flight.

Considering no one knows the extent, this is misleading.  The flu kills .1 percent, and this flight kills 2 percent.  Get your facts from epidemiologists!

Hua Hin beach last Wednesday, how exciting it was for my friends and I, as we arrived from Pattaya

on Tuesday afternoon.  Thanks great, intelligent Thai Army, TAT, and government.

You really know how to tick off the tourists, who are still in Thailand amid the current

Corona virus situation.

No more tourists left to be cheated and no more chinese to bootlick ?

It's about time to hand over 40 THB for 1 dollar to get the tourists-expats-retirees back...with or without the virus as the numbers were harshly dropping even before the outbreak...due to obvious reasons everybody is aware...

Another right wing conspiracy journal, devoid of real facts and misconstruing what few facts it prints. Why would a government promote panic? They all do the opposite.

Unlike the left wing conspiracy journals also known as corporate media

interesting time in china 4.0 - provinces and large cities now have cellphone aps for health reporting.  citizens are required to download and confirm their health status at regular intervals, resulting in a QR-code.

the code will be red/yellow/green depending on the answers given to the short questionnaire, so truthful responses are considered a patriotic duty.

required to show the QR-code on your cellphone when accessing some facilities - housing complexes, schools, grocery stores, shopping malls, transport stations.  not sure if required for municipal buses, ours just restarted operations and i haven't had a need yet.

as of yesterday, the app is setup to accept foreign identification documents.  more businesses are opening, and some of the burger joints are now allowing customers to eat in their dining areas.

no new cases in our province for over a week.  currently 168 total, 5 deaths, 152 recovered, 11 remain in hospital.  next door neighbors just returned from inner mongolia, now under required 14-day quarantine.  lady of the house is a college teacher; instructors have been called back, but students not allowed to return yet.  possibly by end of march.

"Quarantined.  No visitors."
