The shooting of John Lennon: Will Mark David Chapman ever be released?

United by a murder: Fans in mourning in 1980, the late John Lennon and his killer Mark David Chapman ( Rex )

Two summers ago, in August, Mark David Chapman took off his prison uniform, put on his smartest clothes and – under the watchful eyes of the Wende Correctional Facility guards – made his way to the New York Parole Board building complex.

This was the 10th time Prisoner 81A2860 had made such a journey, all of which had taken place within the past 20 years, having made his first appeal two decades after his initial conviction for the murder of John Lennon.

Ten journeys there. Ten journeys back. And 10 rejections, despite this time Chapman seeming more contrite than he’d ever been in his many appearances in the now familiar setting.

“Thirty years ago, I couldn’t say I felt shame and I know what shame is now,” he told the parole board. “It’s where you cover your face, you don’t want to, you know, ask for anything...”

Cap him and be done.

Due to the notoriety, no, because the politician (or future politician) will not want that on his/her record. You're definitely better off killing a nobody if you don't want to die in prison..

Lennon was a self confessed wife beater. If he couldn't live up to his own lofty ideals that he sung about in his later years, maybe he could have forgiven this guy if he had the chance.

Lennon wasn't perfect but he touched many - me included. But if others who have murdered can be given another chance, maybe this guy could too, if he is deemed stable. I think Lennon would have agreed with that.

if you do that you take his place in his cell.

Why would you do that?

Why do media even mentions this grubs name?

Hang him......useless waste of space......

Let him out, just because he shot a famous wife beating hypocrite, IRA supporter and poor father should not make any difference over an unknown one. Give freedom a chance, come on Yoko why not campaign for his release?

No sympathy from me.

John Lennon wasn’t perfect....Wow! Surprise. Not like the rest of us on ThaVisa. 555. He was a great talent and didn’t deserve to be gunned down by a nutcase.

I suppose it's possible, imagine if you try.

after "Mull o Kintyre", I am of the opinion he shot the wrong Beatle. Release him, give him a gun and direct to McCartneys house!!

He is in prison to be punished for a premeditated murder.  He is not there for “rehabilitation”.  He took a life and he has forfeit his own.  It should not matter if it’s John Lennon or the corner grocer. Why waste anyone’s time listening to lies about how bad he feels now.  He only feels bad that he is locked up.
