Down Pattaya way: 37 million baht spent on pontoon to boost tourism - it's guaranteed for two years!

 

 

Thai Rath reported that the Na Jomtien municipality had spent 37,350,000 baht on a pontoon stretching out into the sea at the Had Ban Ampher beach. 

 

The media said it is hoped that this will be a boon for tourism in the area. 

 

The structure that stretches out 50 meters into the sea will be ideal for admiring the sunset, they said.

 

It was built by Hi-Plus Corporation Co. Ltd who threw in a two year guarantee that lasts until January 2022.

Last time I was on that beach there was a 10 cm thick layer of plastic bags along the water line. I guess they cleared it up for the photo.

 

Ban Ampher is such a small beach and attracts lots of locals (and expats) because of the food there. Why spend so much money on a beach that is usually full anyway?

The equivalent of 37 million baht homes! Or 74 at half the price.

 

WOW the Hi Plus corp included a 2 year guarantee, big of them wanna it.

As almost all of the 34 mill was profit, a bit of a joke i think.

Wonder if they care to divulge how BIG were the backhanders for them to get the contract!!

Are the safety rails extra ?

It is 7 modules wide and about 100 long, that is 700 in total. Add 300 for the platform at the end and since it is double layered about 2,000 modules are uses in total. They are about $25 a piece in China, so total cost is $50,000 or 1.6 million baht + installation of course.

This is the third iteration of pontoon at that location that I have seen.

first one was tied to a huge slab of concrete boosting it could stand 20 tons

 

Would be nice if they spent some money on shade trees..but i guess like everywhere else they would rather have people pay to sit under the umbrellas.

 

This picture illustrates why it is quite unnecessary. Note the walkway next to it that allows one to admire the sunset even further out to sea.

 

But perhaps fun for young children. 

Adding some more plastic into the sea! - It is sickening to see all these projects contributing to just more environmental destruction.

Didn't they try one in Jomtiem 3 or 4 years ago and people kept falling between the floating blocks and drowning?

No I think they where  swimming area markers..but yes they where continuous people used to walk out into the deep sea and fall off and drown  they  eventually broke the markers into sections to stop this happening.

They can market it as the most corrupt Pontoon in history.  Sure to bring in tourists. ????

There was I thinking what an efficient use of crude oil by products!

Oh yea how does that work .. I seem to recall some old buddy farang bridge club playing for pennies getting busted a few years ago and 'ere's this lot blowing 37 mil on pontoons .. one rule for them and another for us that's all I can say ..

Just a money makeing ponton: are they totally crazy?!?!??! It wont boost anything. Just was filling up many pockets with big money!!!!!!!!!!!!

You could easily imagine this structure loaded with tourist viewing the sunset.

They didn't. Most of it was backhanders received by the officials.

I doubt it will last for 2 years, a couple of big storms and there will be not much left .  

They come down next Monday to find its floated off to Hua Hin,
