The Ministry of Public Health has recategorised alcohol-based cleaning products as cosmetics, effective March 11.

The change will allow cosmetics makers to produce alcohol-based cleaning products, previously categorised as medical items.

After the outbreak of Covid-19, alcohol-based hand gels have been in short supply.

Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said that Thailand needed manpower as much as possible to help contain spread of the new coronavirus, so he decided to revoke the regulation prohibiting the production of alcohol-based cleaning products by cosmetics makers.
