BANGKOK(NNT) - The Prime Minister has urged government agencies to help create confidence and trust among the general public over the government’s efforts to solve national crises, especially the COVID-19 epidemic, economic issues and the drought, asking them to help create clarity and make rational and transparent decisions.

Speaking while presiding over the ministerial level government agency directors meeting at the Ministry of Energy, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha admitted ongoing situations are now affecting the way his administration works.

He said the most important thing for now is the creation of confidence and trust among one another, with government officials, the police and the military now expected to be distinct and precise with their work, with the ability to trace all their actions verification.

He then asked all government officials to work carefully and take all factors into consideration, admitting that the government is facing issues with its communications with the general public, with his policies delivered but with actual implementation of those policies not being effective. He has warned that poor performance may face measures according to the Prime Minister’s Office regulations.

At this meeting, the Prime Minister stressed the government’s efforts to cope with the COVID-10 epidemic, weather conditions, economic issues and the drought. He has asked all sectors to work together on these problems, adding that he is open to input from all.

How can officials be expected to show clarity when the ministers in charge can't?

Says the man who is about as murky as they come. I guess there won't be anymore news about his strange 600M land sale that opposition MPs tried to quiz him on last week.

"help create confidence and trust among the general public over the government’s efforts"

He's only joking folks....nothing to see here...

I think someone has translated the article incorrectly as I don't think the equivalent of the word clarity exists in the Thai language.

Stop making excuses ... your administration has been useless for goodness knows how many years!

''Distinct and Precise'' are not exactly how you would describe any Thai Officials 'work' at any level !

Dissolve those who question you.  Wave your hand and demand do some sort of vague thing that is in of itself not clear.   Unclarity is  clarity in junta world.

This is what I've witnessed over the last couple of months;

  1. Everything is 100% under control.
  2. We have plenty of face masks - don't worry.
  3. Why do f****** white people not wear masks? We should kick them out of the country.
  4. Only wear face masks if you're sick.
  5. A signed document put on the health minster's FB page saying certain countries will have to quarantine for 14 days on arrival. Countries included France and GERMANY.
  6. Document taken off quickly after. Facebook page removed. It was a misunderstanding and the new list of high-risk countries doesn't include Germany now.
  7. Not enough face masks for medical professionals (Thamanat's mate has a load, mind).
  8. People from certain countries should quarantine but it's not mandatory. If you're feeling sick and you don't quarantine, you'll be fined.
  9. Thai aviation asks people from high-risk countries to have a medical cert confirming they don't have the virus. No other department says anything about it.
  10. Prayut asks government officials to show 'clarity'.

I'm sure I've missed many more. There's a good piece on the paper that can't mentioned about how Thailand has excellent medical professionals dealing with the virus, but the government is well and truly screwing up communication and the handling of it all. I believe 'utterly shambolic' is the description used for the government's handling of this.

it's a day's road deaths...although only 1 person has died.

Imagine if they put the effort they have put into Covid-19 into road deaths.

...actually, there would be no difference. Face masks are like helmets...expensive and optional...and  the Thai quality of both doesn't save lives.

You need to retrieve that 200 million masks, then enough mask for Thailand.

Is he trying to distance himself from all the "imbeciles" he employed?.
The house of cards is starting to wobble and he doesn't want to be in the pack when it crashes!

The blame game starts!

everything under control

no ploblem

sun kill corona

only 50 cases

blabla

The devil playing saint. You can't make this stuff up

How about some clarity about how to obtain The now required “health certificate” in Hong Kong when transiting the airport from another country, not China, where there are few covid cases, in order to enter Thailand by air.   Any thoughts?

Edited by Tracyb

How should the people of this country have confidence on this goverment, no transparency on onythi g they are planning and doing as they have no glue of an idea. Only how to stay in power as still all the old military generals are ruling this country with no evidence that they are working for the people of Thailand. No only work for themselves and their counterparts. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer!

The chief clown might be well advised to appoint a GOVERNMENT PUBLIC RELATIONS DESK.

Get trained expert professionals and put bilingual, intelligent and witty people at the microphones.

The present huge mess Thailand is in is simply, because there are too many clowns and not enough circuses. News come flying in from everywhere - pick your choice. Sometimes it is the immigration, the public health ministry (and its choleric and eratic figure head Anutin) or the big wig himself, in between the governor of Phuket barks some contradictory regulations of quarantine yes, quarantine no, self-quarantine, mandatory quarantine - then the green bank announces closure of all their foreign exchange booths all over the land while a convicted deputy agricultural minister apparently knows more about a huge scam on face masks which, by all accounts, are proven useless for this particular flue. The list is endless.

It might be a good idea to start to understand that, whatever goes into the internet is there to stay. And the way the government is handling the communication of this flue will serve as a pristine example at universities all over the planet as how not to do it.
