NEW YORK (Reuters) - Elizabeth Warren's departure from the Democratic presidential race appears to have benefited front-runner Joe Biden more than Bernie Sanders, her liberal ally on many issues, according to a Reuters/Ipsos national opinion poll released on Monday.

The poll conducted from Friday to Monday showed that 47% of registered Democrats and independents said they would vote for Biden if their state's nominating contests were held today, up 7 points from a similar poll that ran just before Warren suspended her campaign last Thursday.

Thirty percent said they would vote for Sanders, a senator from Vermont, unchanged from the previous poll.

The results suggested that Warren's supporters, rather than gravitating toward Sanders, have fallen in line with Biden, who shifted the dynamics of the race with a commanding victory in the South Carolina primary, followed by wins in most of the Super Tuesday nominating contests last week.

Six more states, including Michigan and Washington, hold nominating contests on Tuesday.

Warren, a senator from Massachusetts, has not endorsed a candidate. More moderate former rivals, including Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, Michael Bloomberg and Kamala Harris, have rallied behind Biden, the former vice president.

The poll also found that about six in 10 Sanders supporters said they would vote for Biden if he ended up winning the party's nomination to take on Republican President Donald Trump in the Nov. 3 election. Three in 10 said they either would not vote, vote for a third-party candidate or did not yet know what they would do.

One in 10 Sanders supporters would vote for Trump if Biden is nominated. That is similar to the proportion of Sanders supporters who political scientists believe voted for Trump in 2016, although academics disagree over how much of an impact that had on Trump's upset victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online, in English, throughout the United States. It gathered responses from 1,114 American adults, including 541 who identified as registered Democrats or independents. It had a credibility interval, a measure of precision, of 5 percentage points.

Though the pundits kept saying Warren was stealing votes from Bernie because she basically lifted his policies then ran them through a "lite" filter it was always clear she was the upper class white moderate choice. They supported her because they knew she had no real political convictions and their lives would pretty much go on as before.  For the very same reasons she failed to gain support with normal Americans.

Good.

Let's get this primary over with already and begin the Biden campaign against 45.

Also best that Sanders continues to lose badly. Time to put the fake narrative that the nomination is being stolen from Bernie. Not stolen. He's simply losing because he can't get the needed votes. End of.

Biden is senile, with signs of early dementia. That, plus his skeletons in the cupboard in Ukraine, will make things easy for Trump in debates. Surely Dems can do better than this ?

That's President Biden to you.

If he had a chance before now he has absolutely none.

Wishful thinking. It's funny to hear from disappointed 45 fans that were hoping to have a  "commie" to run against. 45 may be the incumbent and that was a tragic error but Biden as a 2 term vice president of a very popular president will be no easy pickings.

Hahahaha....Biden didn't even know the diff between an AR15 and a machine gun.

He called a voter a horses a$$ and asked him if he wanted to "go outside"

He and Beto were recorded saying they're going to take people's guns away and then he denies

it when confronted....typical dishonest politician....this is precisely why Trump swept to

power....people are sick of slick lying politicians who think theyre above the common man.

Biden's mind is fading, and he is dirty. It's all coming out. He is going to have to come up with better answers then to become angry, when the pointed questions come, and they will get so specific, that deflection will no longer work, because Trump is going to hammer him.

It will be a seriosly tough thing for this man to step into a head to head debate with Donald Trump. This man is not fit to be a President. Honestly, I don't think he can handle, he can't even handle getting questions on the campaign trail without going off the rails. Everyday, he goes of the rail a little bit more. It's sad to see. Half the time I see him talk it appears like the lights are on and no one is home.

I don't care how much someone hates Donald Trump, to me it seems impossible for someone not to see serious deficiencies in Biden, that seem to be getting worse. I can't see any Democrat giving a vote to Biden without having serious worry about this man making decisions as President, when half the time he doesn't know where he is. Am I exagerating?

eYou've got to be joking. 45 lies more often than any politician in history.

You distort Joe's positions. Yes he is for sensible gun control as are the vast majority of Americans. Yes he is for restricting certain types of guns that are designed to be quick mass killing weapons of war. No he is not for confiscating all guns. No he is not for abolishing the 2nd amendment.

There is nothing to distort when he is captured on video.

Watch the video...then admit that you have a terrible candidate

and say a prayer for his mental health. He will be a basket case once

he gets into the ring with the Don.

Most people don't know or care as much about guns as gun nuts do. Be of good cheer. What with the 3-D printing, you'll soon be able to print a gun with a vagina on it. I expect deaths by guns to make a significant drop soon thereafter. It is highly recommended you keep the safety engaged.

Yes you are distorting Biden's position.

You're pushing a big lie of a deliberately doctored propaganda video.

That is not OK.

Shame on you.

Ok lets talk straight. Who did Biden name to head policy on gun issues? Beto.

Did Beto not directly say he would confiscate (buy back) all AR15? Yes or No? Please, no deflection. Now why would Biden put that guy -Beto - in charge of gun policy, a guy who so openly took such a position?

Is it wrong that I would assume that he agrees with such a position? This is not a close loopholes guy, this is a confiscation guy. Why send that message, unless that is exactly the message you want to send. Beto had the most direct words on confiscation of anyone who campaigned, you don't bring a guy like that in by accident.

And for your information the AR15 was never designed for war, is not a machine gun, is small caliber, and is great for home defense or hunting small medium game. It only looks cool, when compared to other comparable sport rifles.

Also, these rifles are a small amount of total gun murder in the USA.

It is obvious, the Democrat party is attempting to reject its left wing ahead of the election. I expect Obama to give a ringer of a speech endorsing Biden, this will give great momentum and be the high point of the Biden campaign. The more time Obama spends praising Biden, the better for Biden. Ok so thats the positive for the Democrats who will bounce out of convention United and on a high.

As for the GOP, they will come with Durham releasing report, or sending indictments, potentially getting close to Obama.... AND....the dissection of Joe Biden and son Hunter in various global escapades is going to progressively drip, its gonna get ugly.

These Dem primaries are great because they let people see just how wormy dems

can be...with their twisting and turning of positions. To have people like booker, Harris,

buttegieg, etc come out and say Biden's great after giving him the royals diss is at best

fraudulent...how can anyone trust them?

With Trump, you dont get such posturing....the enemies he made on the trail are the ones

he still maintains today. Thats a guy you may not like but you know where he stands.

Ive always maintained Trump isn't a paragon of virtue but he is the president for OUR TIMES!
