REUTERS/Soe Zeya Tun BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand reported 30 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, raising the total to 177, Sukhum Kanchanaphimai, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Public Health told a news conference. Eleven of the new cases are connected to a crowded boxing match that saw a large number of coronavirus cases, while other cases are those that worked closely with foreigners, Sukhum said. Most of the cases, 70% to 80%, in Thailand are recorded in Bangkok, he said. Thailand has recorded one coronavirus fatality and 41 patients have recovered and returned home. Popular Post TallGuyJohninBKK
From the general description provided on the new cases, I'd strongly imagine that most if not all of the new cases involve Thai nationals as opposed to non-Chinese foreigners. The number of cases confirmed by the government here involving western foreigners, the last time I saw any breakdown on that, was just a very few. Quote Three infected foreign nationals are also reported in today’s briefing, but the health official did not specify which country they came from. https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/crimecourtscalamity/2020/03/17/new-cluster-of-30-patients-linked-to-boxing-stadium/ So the above comment would suggest 27 of the 30 latest cases were Thais.... And of the other 3, no distinctions between China/Japan/Korea vs western foreigners. PS - The Thai DDC did a confirmed case nationalities update in their March 15 daily situation update when the confirmed case total was 114... At that point, they said: Quote In terms of nationality, 26 cases are Chinese, 78 are Thai, one is Italian, one is British, one is Singaporean, two are Japanese, one is French Guinea. So as I said above, Thai and Chinese account for the vast majority of all confirmed cases announced by the Thai authorities thus far, and western foreigners just a few. First, it was rational to be extra cautious, because we didn't have a lot of data, the virus was "new", and what was happening in China was, well, scary. Fair enough. And I posted several messages here in that way. But now, we have to face the reality. And the reality does not match the global circus that is organized under our eyes. There is a complete cognitive dissonance. This is really bad. And scary. Not this virus (a mild flu, but highly contagious) but : -the madness of humanity -or the madness and criminal insanity of a few groups who pursue some specific agendas. Choose your poison... 6 2

South Korea did an amazing job. Testing 20,000 people per day. Thailand is doing none of these things, and they know things are about to go more like Iran than South Korea here. So those "flattening" numbers didn't happen by luck, accident or the warm summer winds blowing it away...they are result of smart and swift action. Thailand had that same opportunity and missed it. kingstonkid
Okay so 122 people in Thailand are sick. What is the big deal???? What I want to knonw is how many of these people are so sick they have to be hospitalized and put in ICU or have died. We all get the flu or a cold. People die of the flu also if they have other medical issues. I will guarantee that Thailand will have over 1000 people diagnosed with Corona virus. The question is how many of them die. Are we everytime someone gets a cough going to react it makes no sense to me. BTW yes I am over 60 and yes I am Type 2 and your point is?????? 1

The result only stands for the time you were tested. Test only those showing extreme symptoms.

I do agree with you about testing and the dodgy government(I ll put all of them into this category) but I still see no reasons to panic ... when you really look at the numbers they are not nearly as scary as they are being made out to be. Obviously I am not saying to go around and lick hand rails and take as much precaution as you can but I can't help but feel its a massive overreaction when you consider normal yearly death rates . 2

However, positive nCoV2019 test results are much more reliable than clinical diagnosis. The combined the two.
