Free network sysadmin tool to shut down connections to router

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a free easy to use tool to be able to block certain connections to the household router.  I have advanced ip scanner, but when trying to shutdown certain ip addresses on the network, it doesn't actually shut them down.

What are you trying to achieve?

Do you want to prevent certain devices from connecting or allow only certain devices (blacklist/white list)?

If so. you need to look at MAC address filters.

Or, do you actually want to force devices to power off? If so, are they Windows PCs?  Are they yours?

Need to get a lot more info for people to understand what you want so that they can help you.

I would just like to be able to kick off the network certain devices at a certain time ( think kids accessing the router wifi when they are not supposed to).

Again, I'm looking for something easy to use, not something that requires technical abilities.

This may be something you are able to manage from within the router itself.  The tool you were looking at is designed to power down PCs, so not the right way to go.

More questions...

Do you want to restrict WiFi access to certain times of the day? This could be straightforward, depending on your router?

Or, do you want to be able to force a disconnect as and when you feel you need to?

What is your router make/model no?

Is it your own, or provided by your Internet provider?

Do you know if it has customized firmware?

I know you said you are looking for something simple and it may well be easy to adjust some settings in the router!

Thanks.

The router is provided by CAT and is a Huawei router model number HG8245H

If I could schedule certain devices to be stopped at a certain time, that would be nice, but prefer to be able to just stop wifi access on demand.

I looked through the router menu on the attached, but did not see any setting on how to be able to block users on demand.  However, this is definitely not an area I am well versed in.

I'm not aware of any way to arbitrarily kick a device off a WiFi network from a standard router.  Does the HG8245H allow you to set up a second WiFi SSID?  If so you could set up a second Wifi name for the kids and then just turn that one off when you need to, keeping the main WiFi name available (with a different password).  This would stop all devices on that Wifi.

Would this work for you?

Arcai Netcut works great.

I downloaded it after looking at some youtube videos.  However after installing, I only see a screen that lists adapters, and no way to navigate to a screen that shows anything to do with devices on the network.

The two different wifi names could also work, thanks for that  JaiMaai.

It definitely lists devices on the network. If it's not working for you I don't know what to tell you, perhaps try turning it on and off again.

This is the only screen available.  I dl'd the latest version.  This screenshot taken from their help page, but it's the same screen I get.

What you have there is the 'Netcut Defender' to prevent people cutting your device. You're not using Netcut itself which opens in a browser

Thanks. I have now downloaded and will poke around in some videos to see how to utilize as I don't see a simple on/off toggle.
