Your only taking numbers from closed cases, that do not include the mild cases that just fade away. When talking the all inclusive  246800 cases the death rate is about 4%. And that number is for on the record cases. How many more mild and asymptomatic cases are off radar. The number probably is 2%

Imagine if they'd eaten fruit & vegetables when the black plague struck Europe in the Middle Ages. In Italy they are currently dying in the thousands and fruit and vegetables abound there.

We've just demonstrated that this virus is bad, annoying, and will probably kill a few dozen thousands people on the planet (on a population of 8 billions), but is not apocalyptic.

 

To shut down the world for this... is pure insanity.

Yes, the virus itself is bad but not terrible, you're absolutely right there.....

But you fail to understand that the issue here is not the virus itself, but the fact that at a time when tons of people get sick at the same time the system is overwhelmed and many patients who would be fine with intensive health care are left to die. Not to mention that if hospitals are flooded with sick people it will also be harder for them to properly care for people with many other issues.

The real danger is the combination of

1- a virus that spreads very fast, and forces a high percentage (well, apparently between 5 and 10%) of patients to require intensive care

2- The spike, or sudden surge, in patients numbers, overwhelming health care systems and therefore severely increasing the mortality rate of the flu while also increasing the mortality rate of other illnesses (hospitals overrun)

 

We don't know what will happen etc, but we do know that in Italy the mortality rate is now close to 7%.... if we just allow the virus to quickly spread everywhere many countries will turn into the war zone that Italy is now. The spike overrun their system and there aren't enough resources to provide intensive care. And, as already said, if hospitals are overrun people suffering due to other issues will also be affected.

And by the way, the flu kills 800,000 elderly people every year...this one could kill millions in one year (if unchecked)

 

If we are youngish and healthy we'll probably be fine, true, but letting the virus rage unchecked would be a million times worst than whatever inconveniences are generated by the lockdown. No need to panic but take it seriously dude..... do you really believe people like Trump would close the border and declare national emergency, thereby losing millions, just for fun? There's no need to panic, but this is a serious threat that must be dealt with.

COVID is not present in 109 countries, and the emerging winners so far are three countries:

1. russia with 136 confirmed cases

2. thailand with 272 cases

3. s. korea with 0 (zero !) cases

i firmly believe it is true, allthough don't with to try.

and in thailand? don't lough. i do believe the numbers from thailand. 

you can't hide a serious outbreak like in italy or spain or china.

the proof for thailand's low corona numbers are simply the hospitals (to see

how a busy corona hospital check the photo).

the hospitals are all normal, so...what is the secret of thailand?
