PM Cancels Itinerary Today

Surayud's four-day retreat was likely engineered to free up the military to impose immediate emergency law in Bangkok -- which is now inevitable following unconfirmed reports of an explosion late April 9 outside a theater (no injuries were reported).

Interesting... we'll have to wait and see... :o

Emergency Law in Bangkok for Songkhran! Now that would be something!

It's getting so a man can't even get his colon and rectum inspected peacefully and privately without a mountain of speculation being created as to its implications.

:o

Is it Friday night already? :D

Seriously though, it looks like some sort of plan is in progress to seriously affect what freedoms remain here. The censorship of the internet, and the crass reason / video to shut down youtube looks (like this mickey-mouse bombing) like the spurious reason needed and created to crack-down *yawn* on anyone in the brass' way.

"A source said the premier took a one-day leave of absence due to illness, and that a medical team had come to treat him at his residence in Lad Krabang.

The premier reportedly caught cold upon returning from Japan April 5 because the weather in Thailand is very hot while that in Japan is cold. "

So can we now put this little piece of obfuscation courtesy of the TNA to rest?

Sure, might his rectum rest in peace.

However, the guy has had problem before. In this case, and a that age, you do regular check up to follow. With a PM job... you take appointement and you announce it before to avoid any speculations...

Surayud canceled, rather abruptly, an official trip. It means something happened. Related to a disease, stress, some holliday or even a strong desire to date a beautifull nurse... who knows... But the fact is : something happened.

Adm.Thira says PM’s resignation impossible

The Minister of Transport says it is impossible for Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont to resign, and affirmed that the interim government will continue running the country until the general election.

Transport Minister, Admiral Thira Haocharoen (ธีระ ห้าวเจริญ) says rumors of the premier’s resignation have been exaggerated and most likely stemmed from the premier’s illness at the present time. He said that Gen Surayud was a former special force officer and a gentleman, so it was unlikely that he would be discouraged so easily.

Asked whether criticisms of the Council for National Security (CNS) would affect the government’s stability, Admiral Thira says it would not as the relationship between CNS and the government is still in good term.

Admiral Thira also dismissed rumors of a second coup d’etat and says that some dissatisfaction with the government's performance was normal. He added that the government was not worried over its decreasing popularity.

"you take appointement and you announce it before to avoid any speculations..."

Baloney. Knowing the TVer mindset, if he announced "I'm getting a colonoscopy", the next TV post, "Oh yeah, he's resigning for sure."

Here's about 7 meters worth of speculation:

Im sure I ate something like that at the local fishing park the other night.... :o Tom Kar Gizzard

Transport Minister says PM will not quit

Admiral Thira says he has not visited Gen. Surayud following his ailment. However, he would like the Prime Minister to fully rest. Admiral Thira admits that people may link the Prime Minister’s illness with discouragement. However, he says the Prime Minister is determined to work for the country.

The Transport Minister also asserts that the government and the Council for National Security (CNS) do not have problems with one another. He asks everyone to help support the country.

CDC Chairman urges Govt to clarify PM's illness

The Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee asked the government to conduct a press conference to report on the Prime Minister's health.

Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) Prasong Soonsiri (ประสงค์ สุ่นสิริ) suggested that the government clarify the illness of Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont for the sake of the government and the country’s image.

CDC Chairman says it is acceptable that the government should clarify facts if the country leader is sick, to prevent possible negative doubts. He says many agenices are concerned over Gen Surayud's physical condition due to the importance of the Prime Minister's position and the many tasks awaiting his decision.

At the same time, Mr. Prasong refused to comment on rumors of a second military coup.

Does the use of "crass", "crack-down" and "brass" in this sentence have no secondary intention? :o

Good to see that we were... right.

PM is ill.

In the 2 previous statements :

Admiral Thira admits that people may link the Prime Minister’s illness with discouragement.

Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) Prasong Soonsiri (ประสงค์ สุ่นสิริ) suggested that the government clarify the illness of Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont for the sake of the government and the country’s image.

And now :

(BangkokPost.com) - Privy councillor Siddhi Savetsila presented flowers on behalf of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen to Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont at the Bangkok General Hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

But of course, it's still a "check up".... :o

Update:

Thai PM reported to be in good shape

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont’s heart was working normally while he will undergo a colon check Wednesday, his personal physician said.

Gen Surayud, 64, abruptly cancelled his appointments on Monday and was admitted to the Bangkok Hospital for a medical check-up.

Dr Prinya Taweechaikarn, his personal physician, told a press conference on Tuesday that a cardiac check on the premier was carried out Monday evening and the result was satisfactory.

“His heart is strong and works properly. Nothing irregular was detected," said Dr Prinya, adding that calcium has built up outside his blood vessel but it would not have any impact on the blood circulation.

Gen Surayud was recommended to eat a light diet and laxatives in preparation for Wednesday's colon check after which a press conference will be held to announce the result.

Gen Surayud could be released from hospital tomorrow evening or on Thursday, depending on his recovery, said Dr Prinya.

Meanwhile, the premier's aide said Gen Surayud’s April 19 schedule to visit the southern provinces remained unchanged.

Council for National Security (CNS) chairman Gen Sonthi Boonyaratkalin led council members to visit the premier on Tuesday.

Assuring that the premier was feeling well, Gen Sonthi said he neither discussed the country's political situation nor Monday's bombing in front of a Bangkok's cinema complex with Gen Surayud.

Meanwhile, the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) which led last year's anti-Thaksin movement has called on Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont to "evaluate" his own performance in the face of his alleged failures to eradicate corruption and wrongdoing scandals involving the deposed Thaksin administration.

The PAD leaders, including Sonthi Limthongkul, media mogul and Maj-Gen. Chamlong Srimuang, former leader of Phalang Dharmma Party met among themselves for some two hours and concluded that Gen. Surayud should "evaluate" his performance because he had not done enough to help the Assets Examination Committee and the National Counter-Corruption Commission fight the alleged graft, media-bashing and lese majeste offenses they say were committed earlier by deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Suriyasai Katasila, coordinator of the anti-Thaksin movement, alleged that Gen. Surayud might have secretly colluded with Mr. Thaksin, covered up his predecessor's wrongdoings and stonewalled onto those anti-graft agencies. Not only Gen. Surayud but also the Council for National Security (CNS), which had staged the September 19 coup to oust the Thaksin regime, had allegedly failed to keep their promises earlier made to bring all corrupt elements to justice, Mr. Suriyasai said.

The current prime minister, in particular, was alleged to have failed to take action against government personnel who had remained nonchalant and hiddenly kept in touch with the remnants of the previous administration instead of giving the ASC and NCC a helping hand, according to the PAD coordinator.

Maj-Gen. Chamlong and Mr. Sonthi added they did not plan to raise a massive protest against the current government and the CNS as yet, and would listen to the public's viewpoints before deciding any further moves.

Hmm... like I said, forget about privacy I guess...

oh well... might as well join in and put out an early photo as a way to prepare everyone for the upcoming press conference.

Hoping for the best results, this is what we'll see as it shows a colonoscopic view of a normal colon:

Colonoscopy2.jpg

I'll avoid displaying any photos of abnormal findings in deference to the squeamish.

Also, in the interest of informing the general public, a colonoscopy typically involves 7 feet ( 2.1336 meters ) of tubing which is the width of an American dime coin ( 17.9 mm ) inserted anally and the procedure is often described, rather unsurprisingly given the above dimensions, as "uncomfortable."

Now then, we should all be ready for that Wednesday press conference.... Myself, I can hardly wait.

Indeed Sriracha, we are very disappointed !

:o

I mean we all know that from the rectum to politics, there is only a very short distance.

Let's hope anyway that General Surayud will feel better, relieved even relaxed, after his colonoscopy.

Thailand PM leaves hospital with clean bill of health

Thailand's Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont was dispatched from hospital Wednesday afternoon after a two-day medical check-up which has found nothing wrong with his health.

"The check-up went well and I'm fit to work," he told reporters on his way out of the Bangkok Hospital.

Medical tests show that Gen Surayud, who had a record of colon problems, was fine and there was nothing wrong with his colon, his personal physician Prinya Thavichaigarn was quoted by local media as saying.

Government spokesman Yongyuth Mayalarp said the premier would return to work on Thursday and would offer an opportunity for state officials to pay respect to him Thursday for the traditional Songkran festival.
