A Thai woman who worked as head chef at a Thai restaurant in the United States died after contracting the new coronavirus (Covid-19) at MedStar Georgetown Hospital in Washington DC on March 21, Cherdkiat Atthakorn, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said.

The spokesman said that he had received the report of the 66-year-old's death from the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington.

She is the second Thai fatality from Covid-19 and the first to die outside Thailand.

How to comprehend that headline? Did she die at the hospital from a community infection or did she get infected in the Hospital and then died?

Pre existing med conditions ??

Based on the statistics for Covid-19 fatalities it is highly likely.

Those statistics in the USA are unreliable. We are seeing a different manifestation in the USA, and this is why the US   events are disturbing.

I'm sure her family will be comforted by the knowledge the flu kills more and the young are a bit less likely to die from it ????

I remember when there were only four Thai restaurants in DC metro.  Now, 200+..I wonder which one she worked at.  There is a good size Thai Community in Montgomery County, MD, and a large Buddhist Temple.  Bad news for everyone.  RIP.

Found WaPo article, not sure if this is the Thai woman, but think it is...

D.C. officials announced the death of a 65-year-old woman, the second linked to covid-19 in the city. The woman died Saturday evening after she was admitted to a hospital with underlying health conditions, city officials said.
