Thailand reports 111 new coronavirus infections, for total of 1,045

 

 

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand reported 111 new coronavirus infections, taking its tally to 1,045, the government said on Twitter on Thursday.

 

A state of emergency took effect. Authorities in Thailand, which has suffered four deaths in the pandemic, set up checkpoints on major roads linking provinces so as to increase screening in a bid to limit spread of the virus.

 

Entry by non-resident foreigners has also been banned.

Non-resident wouldn’t be accurate. More like, non permanent resident status / work permit. Some people hold work permits and aren’t residents as been under 6 months here while some people on marriage visa are residents as lived for years and even pay taxes.
 

on positive side at least cases not going up. Hope everyone stays home and contributes to getting over this as soon as possible. If everyone did so in two weeks we’d be back to normal.

No it wouldn't because it's going to spread a lot within households first so we're looking at at least a month of this.

They let people spray out over the whole country and now have "low" or equal figures as before. Not so strange, it take some time that people start testing in the small villages and the numbers go up again.

 

Prayut said ‘everything is under control’ months ago, and now cases exceeded 1000. No masks to the public, I am super disappointed how he runs the government.

Trump says it's going to be over by Easter (which coincides with the start of Songkran this year). The deputy chief medical officer in the UK says the peak should be past and things will be improving by Easter. Where's the happy Songkran message from Prayut? Come on guys and gals, let's hope that the worst will be over by Songkran.

It's not even the start of the curve. It's only just starting to take hold in thailand. 

Very encouraging figures yet again! It seems the virus isn't thriving in warm weather globally..which is also good news for colder countries where it's running rampant. I believe things will turn to normal at half April. Good news!

I think you might find it's lineal testing, rather than lineal growth...

If you only test 100 people each day, you can only have 100 reported new cases each day...

Although not wanting to, I fully agree with that comment. This, IMO, is the biggest downside to confining people together (at this stage) regardless of their prior travel and socializing history before being told to stay at home as much as possible. If you can't self-quarantine at your own home, where do you do it? Many can't afford a hotel room.

 

Many, many families of Thais live together with multiple generations under the same roof. it is certainly a situation caught between a rock and a hard place. 

Who hasn´t expect this after 10,000s left Bangkok last weekend and spread the virus all over the country - except the government.

If that was really true, than the actual numbers would easily be x20. Looking at Europe we can see that roughly 15% needs hospitalization, thus meaning the hospitals should be overflowing with people right now. This is not the case... Furthermore we should see the death going up aswell, and this is also not happening. I believe Thailand is merely lucky with it's climate. I believe it would have been a disaster of unknown proportions if it was 20 degrees colder on average.

I highly doubt the government would "allow" that sort of numbers.

Come back to reality!

In those countries the people's attitude and the professionalism of the government is on a totally different level.

It's amazing how inaccurate the Thai news are.

Because Thailand is still behind the development of infection of these countries by how many weeks? 2 or 3?

A lot more than 1045 if they actually did some testing, only 6,000 tested so far as of 22nd March...........

 

Altogether, approximately 6,000 people have been tested and received their results as of March 22 (data was later removed from website).

Just wondering how you know this as there are reports that up to 50%-70% maybe asymptomatic and testing people for antibodies hasn't begun and the experts are saying it's to early to make assumptions about what is happening.Is there any factual scientific data you can point to to support your claim?
