I posted this here because I tought I might get a more usefull reply in this forum.

I have a skin problem on my neck, and every day when I shave it gets worse, it now un-bearable!

So I want to get permanent facial hair removal done, so I never have to shave again.

I heard it is better if you have light skin and the hair to be removed is dark, which is perfect for me being a white farang with dark hair. I just want to know where in BKK I could get this done, how much it would cost and a little about the procedure, like how many times I would need to go and at what intervals?

Each day I shave my neck get cut up badly and I can not use electric shavers anymore, so its either get cut up every day, grow an arab style beard or get the permanent hair removal.

Any help or info?

Thanks in advance.

Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok is probably the best international hospital in Bangkok and it has its own website which if you look around it you will get better information than I can give you. I have used that hospital several times including their skin laser treatment center and it is first rate. Not the least expensive place in Thailand but by no means expensive by western standards and very professional.

Hi,

I think Bumrungrad is really overpriced, and essentially they do the same procedure as other, cheaper places.

There is a clinic on (I think) the 4th floor of the building adjacent to Erawan in the beginning of Sukhumvit. Can't remember the name of the building, but you can enter it either from the ground floor or from the walkway under BTS.

Pretty much all the private hospitals have a laser skin clinic these days. Bersudes the biggies like Bumrungrad, Smitivej, Bangkok Hospital and Bangkok Nursing Home, Yanhee Hospital, Phyathai 2 are also good to name a few. In addition there are a number of private skin/beauty clinics. The Apex clinics (branches in Siam Center and Emporium) are good.

These places all do much the same thing so worth comparing prices...although there is so much competition that I suspect you'll find prices somewhat similiar across the board.

As to the procedure...first of all, it will need 3-5 treatments each 2 months apart, this is because hair grows in 2 month cycles. It is usually cheaper to purchase a package of 3-5 treatments than to pay by the treatment. You'll see improvement from the first treatment but to get all the hairs will take about 5.

If it's only your face/neck then the procedure will be pretty quick. Insist on application of an anesthetic cream at least 45 minutes before hand (Emla cream...they all have it but will sometimes try to tell you it's not really necessary). The cream is more effective the longer it is left on, so if the first treatment is too uncomfortable, insists on having it on longer the next time. When I had my legs done I needed to have it on almost 2 hours first, but it really depends on how sensitive the area being treated is.

As for the procedure itself, you just lie down, they cover your eyes with protective glasses or a shield, and they zap the hairs. Pretty simple.

Thank you kindly for some of the info yall have shared. I will need to start looking into this quickly then. Ill only be here 6 more weeks before a 3 month holiday in the USA. Then I will return here for 1 week before leaving permanently! So, if I will need multiple laser sessions, that could be a problem. Maybe I get 2 sessions done now, about 5 weeks apart folowed by another one when I come back here.

Is it possible to continue the treatment at another place?

Or would procedures and results vary from place to place.

what happens if you had 3 treatments 1 every 3 1/2 month, are these gaps to big?would i have wasted my money.also how much approx are the treatments per session,do they work on facial hair ie. beard, eyebrows, neck

Be careful with the anesthetic cream. I have heard of patients dying from an overdose while having laser procedures done. It's best to do a test patch and then if you opt to use the cream that you remove it ASAP after the treatment. Use as little as possible to take the edge off the laser zaps.

If you don't go on a schedule, you could be wasting your money. Laser only works on those hairs in the growth phase. That is about 30% of the hair. The others will not be treated. If you go and get a treatment, and then wait too long, you could miss a number of hairs that are in the growth phase.

Remember that laser is NOT 100% effective. A lot has to do with the proficiency of the technician. If they have a bad technique or don't use the proper setting, you could end up just stunning the hair follicle and not actually killing it if the energy setting is too low. On the other hand you can get laser burns if they use too high of an energy setting.

Some people have wonderful results with lasers. Others get little to no result...even those that are the optimum patient for the procedure.

As Jamie said, the treatments need to be timed to the hair growth cycle. If you are unable to return after 2 months it might be better to return after 4 (2 hair growth cycles) but you'd need to ask about this, I'm not sure.

Yes, they can do facial hair. Eyebrows might be a tad tricky coz they need to avoid the eyes. Beard area, neck, no problem.

Costs vary by facility and location being lasered, best to call various places and ask (in the case of Yanhee Hospital I think you can find the price on their website). As I mentioned, there are usually package prices for 3 or more sessions which are cheaper than doing it by the session. It is not terribly expensive.

Can anyone recommend any of the smaller clinics. For laser hair removal?

I've had my first treatment at Yoskarn Clinic. www.laser-surgery-bangkok.com/ I am very happy with the clinic (and of course the result) and cannot wait to go there in a few weeks time. For example, if you do the complete body package: upper lip, armpits, full legs, full arms (incl. fingers) and whole genital area - costs 30,000 THB. From the 5th session, it will be reduced to 27,000 THB. Of course I tried to get a better price but they didn't want to negotiate. The technician is great, I mean the efficiency of the treatment really depends on her ability to choose the right strength of the laser for different parts... too much would burn, too little wouldn't kill the bastards :o ! They would use cold pack to cool the area, and apply laser so that you don't feel any pain. For very sensitive area, they give you some numb cream, too! I've used EMLA before and it works very well! Cannot remember how much it costs but probably something like 500 Baht...

About few weeks after the treatment, I was getting annoyed with the ingrown hair so I tried to pull a hair out and to my surprise, it just came out without any resistance at all! I tried to pull some hair out, and about 80% of the hair came out so smoothly ("dead") while others still hanging there... :D I would say, the first treatment was very successful indeed!!!!!

I also sent an enquiry to Apex (www.apexprofoundbeauty.com) and to quote them "The cost of laser hair removal on upper lip is 7,000Baht for course 5 sessions, whole vaginal area is 36,000Baht for 5 sessions and armpits is 18,000Baht for 5 sessions. We also take care the result after 5 sessions every 2 mo.for 3 more sessions. We can offer specail 50%off for laser at least 3 areas."

I was tempted with this offer, but since I had no time to visit all these clinics to get a consultation, I just settled with Yoskarn Clinic, the first place I visited. If anyone has any experience with Apex, please let me know!

... but the price is not that cheap, right? How much does it cost in Europe??

Sheryl Do you know if laser removal of neck&face hair(beard)by laser is permanent or do you have to return for follow up treatments every X months/years.

Last year I had radiation trreatment for a condition which removed all facial hair LH cheek/neck area etc now I know the treament is not for the removal of facial hair but it is a side effect. 3 Months since treatment and fuzz is returning.

Yes, it is permanent

Limitations are that (1) it only works well on hair that is significantly darker in color than the surrounding skin; (2) needs many treatments (usually at elast 5) and (3) the treatments must be properly times (2 monthly intervals)

I had my legs done about 10 years ago, so speak from experience

Posted

Sheryl, I always thought laser hair removal was not permanent (in the strictest sense of the word) for many (?especially male) patients. The coarseness and number of hair follicles might be reduced but give it a year or two and it comes back somewhat.

Posted

To my understanding, and also from my experience, it is indeed permanent, would hardly be worth doing otherwise (especially as it takes a full year of treatment!)

What will happen is that after treatment area may go from hairless to having a few hairs as hairs emerge cyclically from follicles that weren't successfully zapped. How many that will be depending on the number of treatments and the patient.

Posted (edited)

What I mean is even after the 5-6 treatments at the required time intervals it might be necessary to do it once a year or so to keep it clean, especially male patients (and post-menopausal women)
