Phuket airspace to shut down from April 10

Phuket Governor Phakkhaphong Thawiphat

Phuket Governor Phakkhaphong Thawiphat announced on Sunday (March 29) that air transport to Phuket will also shut down after he had earlier ordered a halt to land and marine transport effective Monday (March 30) until April 30 in order to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.

“Shutting down the air transport route requires seven days notification in advance according to Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT)’s regulations, therefore the shutdown order will come into effect on April 10 and will last until April 30 just like other transport routes,” he added.

Phuket has only one land transport channel connected to the mainland, namely the Tha Chatchai Checkpoint. It will be closed under the governor’s order for all transport except vehicles that carry necessary supplies such as gas, medical, food as well as government vehicles. Others must seek permission from the Public Health Ministry.

Marine transport channels both international and inter-provincial will be closed for all vehicles except those carrying necessary supplies and vehicles used in government or medical affairs. Crews on foreign ships who are allowed to enter Phuket must not disembark under any circumstance. Crews from domestic ships can disembark in Phuket only after they provide a doctor’s certificate and undergo screening as specified by the Ministry of Public Health.

So you are sure how far they go whereever you will arrive?

Food supply (specially fresh food) is much better here than in Europe and most people have much more space to live.

Clear decission for me.

People have more space to live here? Many Thais live in shoe boxes. Expats as well.

Don't know where you're referring to...even though I realize some Europeans live in crammed spaces too, but that's usually limited to major cities.

time to get out if you value your life, you don't know how far they'll go in the next few weeks.

I agree...but it's becoming more and more difficult to find a flight out and if you've lived here for a while and have a Thai family, one can't just pack up and leave overnight, abandoning all your possessions here, to an uncertain future with no house back home. If given a year or two, sure. But a few days or weeks? Some people are going to be in real trouble if that became necessary.

My village has closed off its pool and even the mini park.. so only people allowed in the park are those few houses that let their dogs roam free to poop.. Other people have to keep dogs inside.

Educated people are going insane everywhere in the world, they dont understand that the virus is not ebola and that we are only trying to keep hospitals from overflowing...

I don't want to face uneducated people going into full panic after seeing how educated people react.  Much more enjoyable to be stuck back home with free government money and no crazy army generals.

Get out to which country? Italy which is under real curfew since 3 weeks till end of july? All not easy in most countries....

I'm also not happy about the beaches closed but  maybe the actual decisions of the Gov will result in a quick corona free phuket like we were usually rabies free.

First place in Thailand that is in may/june corona free and open for tourist business again.

Ok, from 10/4 we can declare that Phuket is the largest prison in Thailand ...????

With infections in Phuket rising steadily even these measures are re-active as apposed to proactive.

It's been coming for a while, the Governor has been holding out for as long as he could.

IMPORTANT: The Director General of the Department of Land Transport has signed an order to ban all public vans & buses to enter, exit or travel within the following provinces starting from today: Phuket, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat. This is due to the #COVID19

Have been speaking to family and friends in Australia today and you would not want to be there.

No family or neighbour gatherings, no swimming, poor vegetables (drought & bushfires) at ridiculous prices, 600 baht for a cabbage. If over 70 or have medical issues cannot leave the house.

I know what I prefer.

You can't be corona free, its a type of  flu.

As soon as life starts over, people are going to get sick.

i dont understand how so many humans do not understand the simple fact that every single precaution taken is to REDUCE THE STRAIN on hospitals and protect weak individuals from infection before the vaccine is found.  The virus will not be eliminated from any area. The only way to achieve this is to ruin every one financially until they die of hunger and the area is only populated by people that are dead from everything but corrona.

Bit radical. It doesn't look any worse than the northeast.

Russian MFA claims that anyone who currently stays in another province and has a flight from Phuket will be allowed to enter Phuket to go to the airport by presenting a valid ticket and ID.

Is that true?

This is good question... Bridge is closed, but there are still flights operating to/from Phuket...

What if somebody fly to Phuket from BKK or Samui etc., they must go into 14-days quarantine or not?

(if yes, is it self-isloation at hotel/home, or quarantine center?)

Great idea, so we all go back to Australia, which we can because my wife and daughter also have Australian citizenship.

Assuming that we get a flight,  when we arrive at the airport we will be met by Border Security/ Police / Army and escorted to a hotel where we will be detained for two weeks and will not be able to leave the room.

When we are finally allowed to leave if not already “ stir crazy” we will then face further restrictions.

No thanks I will take my chances here, we have a large house and adjoining land if I get too bored I can always talk to the guinea fowl.

It'll be time to get out when you think the guinea fowl is talking back !

What happens when millions of Thais have no money as they are unemployed? Burglaries and crime increases! In the UK the government are paying people 80% of their salary up to £2500. The USA are spending $2 Trillion. How much are Thailand paying the unemployed? You need to face the future, not the past.

Crime and murder rate will jump very soon, especially in phuket.

Older farangs are going to get killed for a food. People are so much in panic, this might last 6months.
