Covid-19: 7-Elevens in Nonthaburi ordered shut overnight as province prepares for worsening situation

 

 

The governor of Nonthaburi - a province that is sometimes seen as indistinguishable from Bangkok - has ordered convenience stores to shut from 11 pm to 5 am.

 

A meeting heard that the increasing spread of the virus in the province could be linked to people gathering at the stores at night. 

 

The order is effective from today. 

 

Efforts to contain the virus are being hampered by people not disclosing their contacts, reported Daily News, who said that a person connected with the now infamous boxing match outbreak had died and had infected many medical personnel because he did not reveal his movements.

 

Governor Sujin Chaichumsak responded to calls being made to lock down the whole province.

 

He said this was impossible as there were 700,000 people in the province who were non-resident. A total of 300,000 came and went each day and there were 20 access roads. 

 

Urgent meetings about care for the elderly have been convened with officials saying that they can't wait for a crisis like those that have unfolded abroad. 

 

Some 100 million baht has been made available for medical equipment from money controlled by the Nonthaburi mayor and Nonthathaburi and Pak Kret municipalities as cases of Covid-19 in the province have increased.

Where is the report of where these people contracted the virus.

 

I am sh!t scared of catching the virus (I am well into my sixties, no underlying pathologies). My SO cannot practice social distancing, it’s far more important to save face by meeting as many people as possible.

All this does is push those people wanting to buy necessities into a smaller opening window, creating more human congestion and therefore...

 

It would actually make more sense to keep them open 24 hours, so the visitor load can be spread out.

In Pattaya and all of Chonburi province has been enforced closing of 7s Family & lotus Express from 10.00 PM to 5.00AM for about 3 days now.

 

I do not see how that will help as it only shortens the time available for people to shop hence more in a store at the same time.

As a Nonthaburi resident, I will only be affected if I choose to go out shopping in the middle of the night, which I almost never do. Usually in bed by 10pm.

BUT, I have been to my local 7Eleven once or twice late at night and there are little gatherings. Free air con, cute girls in uniforms, and a large selection of snacks.

 

As far condensing the window for people to buy stuff, well come on... if you can't get what you want during those opening hours and while staying away from other customers, then you need help.

Nonthaburi orders convenience stores to close from 11pm to 5am

Convenience stores in Nonthaburi province must close from 11pm until 5am the next day, according to an order issued by provincial Governor Suchin Chaichumsak on Monday (March 30).

 

The order was an amendment to the earlier order on closure of businesses and public venues to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

 

The amended order will be effective from Apri 1 through 30.

 

The governor also sought the cooperation of customers by ensuring they wear a face mask before entering the store, and told the stores to deny services to those without a mask.

 

Like Bangkok, Nonthaburi has issued closure order for businesses and public venues since March to prevent the virus spreading in crowded areas and will be effective throughout April.

 

Business and public venues that were ordered to close include department stores and markets (except food stalls and drug stores), universities, schools, tutoring schools, theatres, massage parlours, gymnasiums, swimming pools, amulet markets, gaming centres, internet cafes, karaoke shops, playgrounds and public parks.

Why are some local Governors issuing these orders now, if the figures issued by central Government are correct including the claim that the virus is plateauing?  Where is the PM?  Most other nations have daily broadcasts by leaders or top politicians on the current state of play, but not Thailand!

Maybe the local Governors got some kind of warning from above, that if their province exceeds a certain percentage of infected/dead - they will be transferred to an inactive position.

that would be sensible but on the other hand a lot of these 7/11 are not so busy right now so maybe fairer to staff - I know not the reason given but by pure luck it might be the right thing to do

Save face? How? My Thai friends are all isolated at home with their families. Those who live alone might mix with one or two others at each others homes. If your partner is still actively socialising, it's not about saving face.

She is selling all manner of stuff including hand gel in 1 litre sachets. She insists she has to deliver, few people come to the door.  Today she was out for 4 hours making deliveries.  Not exactly what I call social distancing. She has no concept of the danger involved.

 

She wears one of those useless surgical masks thinking it protects her.  I have sent many links to her about the uselessness of these types of masks yet she refuses to heed.  Prayut would never lie.

A few around Jomtien have had people outside drinking...groups of 7 or 8 no masks...makes sense to me

There's a post somewhere here on ThaiVisa with a notice from some Cholburi official clarifying that the overnight closure of convenience stores there was *not* CoVid-related, but rather due to some spate of robberies and subsequent stationing of armed guards at the stores.

Here in Hua Hin since Saturday haven't seen a single cop anywhere. Mentioned this to the GF tonight when heading to Makro and she said "the cops are all off with their mia nois". Anyone else noticed a lower level of street plod during the shutdowns (and less opportunity for commission money)?

Well one poster has a wife, out and about selling stuff.  Ifshe is over charging, be careful as the BMW  smart car might get wind, and catch her.  Big face lost if that were to happen.

Closing the 7 11s will let some staff at least sleep at night.

  If people cannot adjust their lives a bit, what a sad lot  they are.
