Exactly!!! As in the early days of HIV/AIDS thousands of causes of deaths were put down to other causes, pneumonia caused by having no immune system being one of them!!

I don’t know what the legal requirement Is in Thailand, but in many Western countries the specific cause of death has to be recorded, as in your example pneumonia.

Hes back! I thought Prayuth was self-isolating as he's been unusually quiet since taking control of Thailand's fight against COVID-19.

Not trying to be funny, but Thailand's woeful management culd be summed up in the cse of someone dying of undiagnosed Covid, driving to hospital for treatment, crashing, being picked up at the scene and dyig in the hospital later.

Neither the Covid nor road death would be recorded as such!

Amazing Thailand.

Take a look at flightradar24 website and see how many planes are flying at any one time over china.

Screen cap taken 08:46 Thai time 1st April. (no not a joke).

Actually I have a set up here in Chiang Mai with antenna and Raspberry Pi computer that feeds info to that website. There has been no aircraft detected since 07:30 when todays readings start.

“While many are concerned that more people travelling back to their hometowns will heighten the risk of virus infection and want to see a complete shutdown of public transportation networks, Prayut said the consequence of such an order must be taken into consideration before a decision is made.“

isn’t this the wrong way round? Shouldn’t the consequence of NOT giving such an order be taken into consideration before a decision is made?

That may be ok to say when you are sitting in the comfort of your own home, but there are obvious social consequences.

If you are working away from home and lose your job as had happened and with no prospect of further work what do you expect these people should do.

There is no social security safety net here they have to return home or starve.

Too many of them are not even under the category being Covid 19 victims.

I've seen enough little hospitals here when I had to visit sick people and I also know how incompetent many of these doctors and nurses are.

Have you ever been treated in any of the hospitals you are complaining about?

Answer is probably no, stop your scare mongering, many very competent doctors and nurses here.

I can only post this due to some very competent doctors here, personal experience, not just gossip.

Doctors and nurses in government hospitals here work under very trying conditions, and do their utmost best for patients under their care.

Even if Thailand tries to reopen the tourism, the airlines have cancelled their

international routes, and will not be starting up very quickly.  It may be China

and India that  go back for their vacations,  but I believe  they have also

cancelled their airlines.  People are still trying to get back to their home

countries and are still stranded abroad.  Good luck to all who are living or are

stranded in Thailand.

Geezer

My home and family are in Thailand, where my wife and daughters stay, while I live and work in Myanmar.  I came home for a visa run (Myanmar visa, not Thai) but am now stuck here as well!

Unable to return means unable to work.  Kinda screwed.

Or in Bangkok - we had covid (from a friend who stayed from UK) and were told flatly that if its just mild symptoms stay home and isolate.  Either they dont think they want the numbers on the record or testing is inadequate.  Further, no antibody testing yet in Thailand so no idea who has had the virus and recovered.

Who had the brilliant idea of Congratulation’s words

The premier said the rising numbers of confirmed cases over past seven days reflected the fact that the government was ramping up screening and that more people with symptoms were turning up at hospitals nationwide.

Reported as if that's a plus!!

To the government and others:

STOP PROMOTING THE USE OF MASKS AS THE NUMBER ONE PRIORITY.

Because of this, Thais actually believe that if they're wearing a mask then they're safe!

I went into 7/11 yesterday afternoon.  I used the sanitiser on the way in and on leaving.  If there's no sanitiser then I'll use my own, which I'm never without.  Then consciously keep my distance from others.  When I arrive home, I wash my hands with soap and water before doing anything else.

I decided to watch people going in and out of 7/11 for 15 mins.  In that time I notice most Thais wearing masks but NOT ONE used the sanitiser and were certainly not practicing social distancing.

The emphasis needs to shift from masks to hand washing, social distancing because until then, masks become the be all and end all of protection.

Retail outlets etc have now banned entry without a mask.  The government have now classified used masks as hazardous material to be disposed of in red bins, highlighting again the importance of masks as the number one priority.

Until people get real on how to protect themselves, it's not going to get better.

There is no lack of willing to make unpopular decisions he makes them all the time , it's just stupidity when it comes to covid .

I check BKK arrivals website the other day - plenty of planes arriving from China.

Emergency could be extended

By THE NATION

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha

The government, if need be, will extend the state of emergency for another month or two depending on the Covid-19 situation, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said today (March 31) after a cabinet meeting.

Like a pig in mud, he'll be loving this.

Fortunately, getting the virus from China now has been greatly reduced.  All new cases in China are from 'imports' with no new local cases. (according to them).  Factories etc are in full swing and ironically, China have now instigated aggressive screening of visitors.

Thailand is one of the safest places to be right now with its sweltering heat. The mortality here is close to zero. Cambodia zero. Most patients are recovering fine. This is fact.

The Chinese seem to have it under control now so the rest of the world needs to follow suit on what they did.

There seems to be no increase in funerals in my area of Isaan. So they ain't all dyin' yet!

2 weeks incubation another 2 weeks before death comes creeping into the room so about a months time before increases will be noticeable.

Such total rubbish , they have no idea of the "total numbers" since there weren't reliable tests in place and there was no start date. They will never know and theres absolutely no proof that the draconian measures they've put in effect are doing anything other than trashing the economy and people's quality of life will be  pushed further and further into despair. At least the " lucky ones " got out and to their home areas in the nick of time where they'll have a much better life than the government could provide. Has any government ever promised to keep us disease free and safe ?

How about the choking pollution all over the country. I'm in Hua Hin area and everyone here is coughing and sneezing due to the indescriminate burning of fields due to the government's tax rate change for open land.

Just my observations and opinions. Be safe don't use a dirty filthy mask ...

What do the 2 graphs indicate other than someone shot them with a shotgun?

Someone must have finally shown him how to properly wear the mask.

None, unless you were already confirmed. The deaths that have been reported come from the confirmed pool, which itself fills very slowly thanks to the slow testing and even getting to be a PUI and tested is a strictly filtered process. Add all of this up and you'll have a filter that nearly eliminates the number of deaths. The reported ones, that is.

Would the overall death figures give any guidance? If there's an increase in deaths due to the virus but they aren't recorded as such you might see it in the total figured.

No point in looking back and what if

Need to look forward and people do what the government are asking

Okay pain and  hardship now but better in the long run

Save lives

Average number of people that will catch from 1 infected individual. That is my understanding.
