Yes indeed, your landlord, when you stay in a hotel! In my opinion this is a deliberate work (and infection risk) avoidance tactic in one particular IO. They set up a totally irrelevant form and requirements so that people prefer not tu use these visa extensions. They have seen the crowds that have been caused elsewhere and don't want to face the same upheaval (and a possibly deadly disease).

Here's something curious - people are getting a 'no documentation required' extension offered at the front of Chonburi immigration. Maybe shady, but no efforts are being made to keep it a secret. It costs 15k for 30 days. Do you think it's a coincidence that 15k is equal to 30 days of overstay? Is someone less of a security risk when you pay 15k for an extension minus the documentation?

I would imagine the easiest way around the whole farce would be to avoid immigration, hunker down, and when it is safe to leave pay your overstay fine at the airport. Or am I simplifying it too much.

Somehow I doubt this will fly...if you're ever caught, you'll be in a world of trouble. America has a proper, well managed system to oversee foreign residents and residency/citizenship applications.

Trust me, I'd happily pay the 15K if only to avoid all the trouble with getting an extension "through the front door". I like the fact that Thailand may still have such options available...and I get annoyed with foreigners whining about corruption all the time. Corruption is good if it can help you get out of a pickle. Westerners need to get rid of all their notions of egalitarianism. The real world doesn't work that way. It's dog eat dog, and people rise up by forcing their way up, not by doing things by the book. If the world was as perfect as westerners think it is (or should be) everyone would earn the same amount, there would be no billionaires blah blah blah. In other words, there would be communism.

 

And no, I don't think 15k is necessarily a coincidence.

Thailand thinks differently. I still think it's got more to do with political correctness. Australia needs to be treated for that disease...it might have been a good idea at first but now it's showing it's true colors.

Australia is doing whats in its own interests - to stop the spread.

 

If that means paying for some foreigners to get the test - so be it. Not that there are too many who'd need it. Many europeans and all kiwis are covered by reciprocal health agreements and all temp workers in Australia who aren't need to have complusory health insurance.

If you need treatment, Thailand will stick you in a government hospital specialised in the treatment of this stuff. There are a whole swathe of these dedicated to the treatment of tropical infections, so are well set up.

 

Sure you may get a bill, but it won't be much...so yes, effectively subsidised.

 

 

OP, what are you whining about? Why are you still here? This thing started 3 months ago! You had 3 months to pack your bags and go to wherever you came from, or arrange a proper visa/extension of stay. You had to be aware for at least 2 months that this thing will spread and that lock downs like in China were very likely to happen. You did nothing. Now you're blaming the Thai government for your own lack of preparation and planning.

Five years ago i was seriously ill and did not know it, I paid  for a private Hospital in Bangkok for an examination , i got told its not Dengue or Malaria, For my 10,000 baht approx £250, ten minute examination and blood test. I got 12 vitamin B tablets and two isotonic drinks, as treatment.

A few days later My wife took me to a local Government Hospital in Samut Prakan, at 2 am  delirious, They immediately cared for me, I woke up seven hours later to be told i had leukemia, And they were right, I offered to pay but they would not let me, So dont knock Thai Public Hospitals they are as good if not better than private ones. When i go back every year i usualy get food for the same ward that treat me as a thank you to give something back.

I suspect the Thai hospitals are taking money and not actually testing for covid as well for foreigners. I had difficulties breathing and chest stiffness and my neck felt like I had a rubber band around it, massive loss of appitite, wobbly weak legs, night chills, but my test for covid was negative. Seams really suss. Or the tests are not accurate.
