Drinking the water from the tap

Featured Replies

Now i know the water quality is different in parts of Thailand but can i ask if you say boil the water we get from the tap, does it make a difference?

I know some older guys in Pattaya that actually do drink the water from the tap and have had no problems health wise ,i didnt ask them however if they boiled it first then maybe cooled it ,perhaps they did and didn’t mention that?

With the price of supplied bottled/container water so low, why would you want to mess about with it or potentially take risks.

I have but I wouldn't :whistling: ... at the least get a filter on there. Send a sample off to the lab to get tested. Gotta be esp careful of heavy metals.

Boiling the water will kill the bacteria, and maybe evaporate some of the chemicals. But I would still be quite concerned about the chemistry of tap water in Thailand. If you are serious about using it, then I would recommend a full lab analysis first.

I never drink from the tap.  However I never shied away from ice cubes when out at restaurants or getting smoothies.  Never had a health issue with it.  I point out that when you shower, you inhale plenty of water vapor.

My water for Tea/coffee is tap water but boiled. Bottle water for drinking. All my Thai friends have filters fitted for tap water.

john

I filter our tap water and boil it to make tea, coffee.

I drink bottled water 6 x 600 ml bottles 30 baht.

Like deep purple?

I installed a water purification system in my house, which is a set of three filters in line that are changed regularly and filter out different elements.  All the water at all of the faucets in the house has run through this system before it gets to them, and is potable.....

Our water comes from underground on our estate, I checked the inside of our water tank and it was a blacky green, pressure washed the inside and refilled it, the water was a milky colour, but we just use this for showering, toilets and washing up etc. Our water for cooking and drinking comes from the 20L bottles, use about 3 a week. My wife still has to buy the small bottles of water too.

Yeah ???? Makro 22 kilos away from where I live, my mrs is the water drinker really and she buys them big bottles dunno how much is in em but there 10  baht.

Ever see the "dishwashers" in most of the restaurants?  yech.  Not to mention the small side road vendors or smaller eateries where you will see the girls washing the dishes and things using a cold water hose.  Hot water really is the better thing

If you boil the water you may kill the beneficial bacteria. Not good.

tap water in thailand is as nasty as it ever gets,

feces urine bacteria cholera you name it thai tap water got it in spades

Heating up tap water?

Best have a filter on the tap and stick it in the fridge and drink it cold.

Still here 15 years later and never been ill.

Four times I have found nematodes in water, once in a hotel ( in shower ) in Bangkok, once at a hotel ( in shower ) near Khon Kaen and twice in shower at the house I rent ( 50km south of KK out of the local town in a 5 house family run compound ( compound has 3 rented and 2 family houses, generally very clean with well kept gardens etc. ).      The water is govt. and at certain times of year can have sand normally due to broken pipe somewhere.

Drinking water, I bought 32 x 5 litre bottles with the boxes.    I know the water supplier very well, the bottles are collected and returned to me same day, around once a month, price 5 baht per bottle.    At the house I have a Seagull kitchen top 5 litre water dispenser.     I have had the same boxes, same bottles and same dispenser for 4 years.     Yes I have sufficient floor space to store the bottles.    Never sick from the water.

As for the large blue or green or white bottles, no way, I have seen so many people get sick from contaminated bottles ( which are "cleaned" at the water plant ).   When visiting high security farms here I have seen all the staff get sick at one time due to contaminated water, it can be a disaster.
