Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit

The Election Commission (EC) has disclosed details of the criminal case it has lodged against Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, former leader of the now-dissolved Future Forward Party, after he was disqualified as MP by the Constitutional Court in November last year.

That case stemmed from the EC making three accusations against Thanathorn. The first and second accusations involved an allegation that he owned or held shares in a media company, the third was related to shares in 13 companies of the Thai Summit Group.

A Constitutional Court investigation found that Thanathorn still held shares in V-Luck Media on February 6, 2019, the day the Future Forward Party submitted its list of party-list MPs.

The findings showed that Thanathorn went ahead with applying as an MP despite the knowledge that holding the shares were in violation of the Organic Act on MPs – Articles 151 and 42 (3).

The investigation into the first accusation was then halted, with Thanathorn facing criminal prosecution as per the Organic Act. If found guilty he faces up to 10 years in jail and a fine of up to Bt200,000.

He will also lose his election rights and be forced to give up his parliamentary allowance and other benefits to the Secretariat of the House of Representatives.

The Constitutional Court has yet to rule on the second and third.

Pathetic. Saddening to see what Thailand has become - which is pretty much a banana republic. This bloke could single-handedly elevate it to something special but, alas, dares to dream and is too hono

This is just so unbelievable, the mob controlling the country will do anything they possibly can to stop this man, Thailands only hope for a decent future.

  • This really highlights the desperation of the ruling party and the lowly depths they will go to to retain power and their place at the trough!

And here I was, thinking that they already was done and over with his shares and ownerships. Now they come up with more accusations related to the things he was acquitted of before. Pathetic. I hope he stand strong and comes out as a winner, but that is probably not on the governments agenda. He is to dangerous for them and must be silenced.

I can see a high level of paranoia in the EC .

The EC has no credibility.

Exactly, but unfortunately doubly jeopardy and triple jeopardy exist in this country, so you can be punished again and again.  I do believe its why certain political figures leave the country in self exile.  They were already stripped of power and removed by whatever means, then they were castigated again, and then there families are left to absorb more fall out.....yes, its the same as beating that dead horse.....does not matter who is in power, essentially ensuring you are blacklisted and tarnished forever.  Some just choose to keep fighting, and hopefully one day who knows what will happen....

I suspect that they will move quite quickly on this. Under the current restrictions there can be no rallies, protests or effective campaigning.

The world is less likely to take notice.

As I have said before the Junta have moved on from Animal Farm to the 'Hun Sen book on Dictatorship!! ????????????????????????????????

The 2014 coup was illegal everything this administration did following that is illegal,I hope one day they get they day in court. But hey lead by example if they can break the law so can everyone. The constitution they ripped up is still legally binding because if it isn't then it becomes a precedent!

After this year I think many people will have a different opinion about who they might vote for next time around.

This isn't much different than what goes on anywhere in the world countries. It's Politics, Dirty as <deleted> no matter what country. They all try to dig up dirt on their opposite parties/politicians. Just look for instance at the USA. What a freakshow .

But believable in Thailand.. an Uncivilised and Undemocratic country !

They probably think that if they hound him enough he will just leave the country like so many others have done. Soon there will be enough to form a government in exile.

He has been placed into an inactive post.......

Good timing, nobody can go out to protest. Not a coincidence. Keep on steering towards the Motherland.
