Stranded and hungry in Thailand: German pensioner gets 1,000 baht from Thai man

A 66 year old German man was the latest recipient of a well known Khao San Road area philanthropist.

The tourist said he was hungry and stranded in Thailand with just 20 baht. The Thai took pity and doled out 1,000 baht.

The story was on a Facebook page for a charity clinic in Banglamphu, Bangkok, run by wealthy realtor and hotel developer Surat Wongcharnsin.

His page says the clinic will cure you for a baht.

Surat said he went to Khao San Road where a foreign guy accosted him saying that he recognised his clinic because he had been there. He showed him a bag containing the logo of the cut-price clinic.

It transpired that the man was a 66 year old German who said he had gone to the embassy for assistance but found it shuttered. He said he only had a few baht to buy something to eat and whipped out 20 baht as proof.

Asked where he was staying and when he thought he'd get back to Europe the German said that he was in a guest house and was due to fly back next Monday - but there were no planes.

Surat was moved to reach into his own pocket and give the beleaguered tourist 1,000 baht.

Along with a cheery invitation to come for lunch at his soup kitchen on Sunday.

The Thai and the German parted on very friendly terms.

Take your butt back home and leave Thailand if you have no budget.

There must be countless acts of generosity everywhere in the country, regardless of age, race, nationality, why this is making news ?

Seems like the 'anti-white propaganda' is working on you.

As Pravda says, anyone claiming elderly Germans have no money is falsifying their information.

But like all these anti-white stories invented by Thais, they didn't think it out.

They consider all whites the same, the thought that elderly Germans have the highest state pensions in the western world didn't cross their tiny racist minds for 1 second.

Yep. Funny how there is always a camera man on hand to snap the event ????

More info. on Surat and his clinic:

http://travel.cnn.com/bangkok/life/clinic-bangkoks-backpackers-included-087551/

Might be useful info. if you get down on your uppers for whatever reason, and if you think you're immune, well life has this strange way of punishing hubris.

But as for this guy, yeah, like Pravda et al, I'm puzzled as to why a German pensioner needs help. Seems to me he targeted and panhandled Surat, obviously recognised him and even had the bag with the logo all ready to hand,

After reading all the negative comments throughout the years........I saw these old homeless people begging for money.  I laughed at them and said, "FAKE!!!  Go home, Go back to Germany!!!"

Turned out they were really homeless and really living in H...ll.

Then I saw more homeless people and I yelled at them, "Get a job you losers!!!  Go back home!!!"

They had mental problems, died months later after lots of suffering.

oh.

Exactly my thoughts.

Odd how everytime a Thai does a good deed it ends up on facebook site with detailed photo spread.

This is not true. There is no state pension in Germany for people who never worked. They need to go to welfare. And another one: This pensioner was due to fly back may be ealier than next week, but that plane might not have been available. So he had to spend the rest of his money for the unplanned longer stay.

When in London for a time I was frequently accosted at the local ATM by a youngish, pitiful looking guy sitting under a blanket imploring for a tenner, fiver, anything.

One night I saw him living large with his mates in the local pub. Just like that picture.

I was glad I always gave him traveling advice not cash.

I don't want to comment this "Framing" story.

But concerning the "Fairy tales" about the "Luxury" German pensions, I'd suggest to "google" about it!
Germany's pensions are ranking at the lower end in Europe, and many are dreaming about a 1000.- Euros pension.
That's why they've to collect pawn bottles from trash cans, welfare meals and so on.

On the other hand, you wouldn't or shouldn't meet those people in Thailand!

oh.

touching story,  but each case is an individual one.     there is good reason that many of us are

cynical when a story with pic like this one is posted.

brings to mind how many guys have posted about how they were "taken"  by some fair lady

and now are desperate.    we can feel empathy ,  but in so many cases it is the victim who

brought it on themself.

In precisely the same way as Germans and other Westerners with tiny racist minds consider all Asians the same. But, hey, that, on the other hand, is absolutely no problem in your eyes, right?

I can't say I've ever considered all Asians dirty or poor, or Xenophobic for that matter.

Can't speak for Germans though, not even one ............

Not seen any western government anti-Asian hate campaigns running either.

Which is what this story appears to be part of.

Haven't aimed any insults at you either.

I'd suggest you discuss the post, and not the poster.
