Prince Harry and wife Meghan cut ties with four British tabloids - media

(Reuters) - Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, have cut ties with some of Britain's biggest tabloids and said they will adopt a policy of "zero engagement" with them, British media reported on Monday.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who gave up their jobs as working royals at the end of last month, sent a letter to The Sun, Daily Mail, Daily Express and Daily Mirror on Sunday evening detailing their new policy, British media, including the Guardian, Financial Times and ITV News, reported.

"This policy is not about avoiding criticism. It's not about shutting down public conversation or censoring accurate reporting," the couple's representatives were quoted by the media as saying.

"Media have every right to report on and indeed have an opinion on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, good or bad. But it can't be based on a lie."

The couple said they would no longer "offer themselves up as currency for an economy of clickbait and distortion," according to the reports.

In its report, the Financial Times said under the new policy, the tabloids would be barred from receiving updates and photographs from the couple, and may also be blocked from attending their media events.

He could get a job in the Thai government dressed like that!

  • Actually they wanted to keep their titles but were told they couldn't. They only wanted to resign from the duties and keep the perks, but the Queen wasn't having any of it (and rightly so).

When they moved overseas they resigned from Royalty and taking money from the state.  A good example of how royalty should behave

This announcement seems a great way to ensure there are plenty of negative tabloid stories about them for the foreseeable future.

Thanks for the insight in the talks of the couple with the queen.

Good we have someone here who was there.

very selective, not sure how they were able to exclude the worst offenders - Skynews - BBC - ITV - The Independent - The Guardian and Channel 4, the absolute worst of the worst, we all know what the Sun and Star are so there is no pretence

The have both been approach by Fox News to run their own primetime news spot lol

UK taxpayers are still paying millions for their security. This cost will have hiked substantially after leaving their Canadian lair and moved on to the Harry and Meghan does Hollywood skit. It is hilarious watching these 2 limousine liberals desperately trying to remain relevant in the age of Wuhan flu. The photos of the 2 of them traipsing through the glitzy area of LA handing out 20 meals was a classic. If anybody can't see it's staged PR, well there is no hope.

Harry is angry with the UK tabloids because they have been proven 100% correct in their predictions. Thomas Markle is a loving father that did not deserve to be treated as he was. Meghan is a grifter, she craved riches and adoration from the Hollywood A list where she desperately wanted to live and thrive. And just look what happened! After Harry and Meghans latest tantrum expect more negative press coverage. I like the comments under any story about them in the tabloids. 99.9% extremely negative, and rightly so.

Poor ole Megan that damn virus has pushed her out of the spot light.

She will have to dream up something drastic to get back in the media.:cheesy:

It seems like millions of people look at stories about that couple.

If people wouldn't do that then there wouldn't be a problem.

It seems you can't wait to read about her, or maybe just look at her pictures.

If you and your pals wouldn't care then there wouldn't be any articles about her.

That is very confusing what you just posted, as i saw the same thread as you.

So can you explain exactly what you mean, i only saw the same as you, so you read the article just the same.

I just can't wait for the reality show to start, Keeping up with the Sussex's!

Perhaps we can have on old sex tape if Meghan "suddenly" appear. Maybe Harry will decide he wants to pull off a Bruce Jenner like transformation. And of course there will be the playdates with baby Archie and the Kardashian kids. My god, the stories are endless.

If they can't do anything useful (a given), at least they provide some comedy, unintentional or not.

I don't think that forfeiting your freedom of speech, living in accordance with a strict and often archaic set of protocols, being subjected to intense media scrutiny and spending much of your time attending royal events where your input is limited to shaking hands and standing by smiling is "sponging".  I wouldn't trade my life for it and that's for sure.

Where is the current link for this allegation? The couple announced some weeks back they are paying for their security upon moving to the US

A spokesperson for the Sussexes said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to ask the US government for security resources. Privately funded security arrangements have been made.”

Actually I couldn't attend due to the lockdown but it's very obvious who made the decision, anyone with double digit IQ can work it out.

Who do you think decided they couldn't keep their titles? The palace gardener? One of the Corgis? :whistling:

But you have a choice to be on it. He was born into it and found a way out of it. That wouldnt be easy. And its not like hes been sitting on his butt all his life doing nothing.

Good on him taking control. I dont think he did the right thing but if he thinks it is then bravo for having the balls.

Regarding the media, it doesnt matter if he engages them or not. But they will engage him, they wont stop no matter what he does.

Leave the guy in peace to do what he wants now.

Nothing like a good Megan and Harry thread to bring the gossipers out! Must be nice to take a break from being public health experts.

A baiting post trying to deflect the topic has been removed
