Bangkok: Huge crowds gather for 100 baht handouts

Charity officials and health personnel were overwhelmed when a huge crowd of people converged on the area of a Bangkok shopping center after news circulated they were handing out cash as well as food.

Water bills to be automatically reduced by 3%

The Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) announced on Monday that it would automatically reduce water bills by 3 per cent for all types of users in Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakarn provinces for three months in a bid to lower the cost of living in this Covid-19 situation.

Chinese arrested on border sneaking in with Ecstasy and date rape drugs

Thai Smile seeks to resume flights only on June 1

Thai Smile has informed the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) that it wants to postpone reactivation of its flights from May 1 to June 1, CAAT director-general Chula Sukmanopy said.

Lowest number of cases in a month raises hopes of easing lockdown restrictions

With 19 new cases confirmed over a 24-hour period, Thailand had its best day this month in the battle against Covid-19. The number of Covid-19 patients in the country increased to 2,811while there was one death, Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said on Tuesday (April 21).

301 Thais return home from Malaysia, majority quarantined

A total of 301 Thais stranded in Malaysia returned home via Songkhla’s Sadao border checkpoint from April 18 to 20. Of these, 69 were sent home, 212 were made to undergo 14 days of quarantine in Sadao District and 20 sent to hospital to take a Covid-19 test, Sadao sheriff Chawakit Suwankiri said today (April 21).

I stood at the curb with a group of 75 newly returned Thai citizens from Indonesia. After three hours of tedious processing at Suvarnabhumi Airport, they still wouldn’t let us leave. Officials posed with us for photographs as if we were celebrities.

PHUKET: Phuket Provincial Police have reported 28 more people arrested for breaking the curfew overnight, bringing to 636 the official tally of people arrested for breaking the national nightly curfew from 10pm to 4am since the curfew began on Apr 3.

Army hospital turns old ER ward into high-tech zone for Covid-19 patients

The Army’s Phramongkutklao Hospital has joined hands with King Monkut’s University of Technology Thonburi and Saijo Denki International to turn an old emergency ward in the hospital’s Prapasri Kamlang-ek building into a special ward for Covid-19 patients.

BEIJING (Reuters) - The World Health Organization warned on Tuesday that any lifting of lockdowns to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus must be gradual, and if restrictions were to be relaxed too soon, there would be a resurgence of infections.
