Pattaya: Starving crowds told to go home as City Hall cancels handout

Pattaya: Starving crowds told to go home as City Hall cancels handout

5pm.jpg

Thai media reported that large crowds had gathered in the Thepprasit area of Pattaya to receive handouts of essential basic food items like rice.

But City Hall arrived and told the hungry people to go home because they were not social distancing.

The organisers had not told the authorities about the event either.

77kaoded went to the area and found officials from City Hall milling about with other authorities. It was confirmed that the crowd had been moved on with the help of the police.

Some people who had been left disappointed condemned the move and said they were hungry.

Some said they didn't need ready made meals but rice and dry goods so they can cook themselves and have a supply of food for many days.

The hungry and poor citizens of Pattaya that has lost their work and income due to the virus shutdown, is now very grateful to City Hall. Morons are shutting it down and sending people home, instead of using the police to organize the lines and do the work they are supposed to be doing.

If these idiots used social distancing instead of all gathering in a huge crowd they would have received their goodies but they just want to be in front of the others in case they miss out . The police could have been used to control them .

House to house (or village to village) deliveries by tessaban staff - or the army - seems the smart way to go.

Much easier to get a dozen officials with some masking tape and have them put lines on the ground.

Hungry people do not care about Social Distancing, they worry bout feeding their Kids and the rest of their family members.

So why are there no food trucks, or Army Soup Kitchens to care for these hungry people

Shame on you Thailand, shame on you. An utter disgraceful way to treat your fellow Country Folk

Shocking how a simple problem was unable to be solved. There were masses of people there for a very good reason, being that there are a hell of a lot of hungry people out there. Half a brain would have seen the authorities take control of the situation and organise the queue to meet their rules. Instead, they send hundreds home with an empty belly.... Disgraceful.

it will never happen.   Let's be clear, the authorities don't give a toss about the ordinary people, only about maintaining their own postions and money. They are a disgrace.

The Thai Army needs to be mobilized, across the country, to deal with this issue.  If not, how long before rioting and looting starts?

That's true, so are we headed for civil unrest?  Broke and hungry people have nothing to lose.

40 years of mass tourism and they can't even put a few quid to one side for some rice??

Beggars belief.

So cruel.

They demonstrate they care more about Power, than the many 1000s who are hungry, and out of money.

The same officers Could Had called in extra staff, and organized social distance.

Feeling mad now.

What are they going to do with all that food prepared, packaged, and ready to give away?  It should be taken somewhere to be distributed.  Hope they don't just throw it in the garbage.

The solution is another military coup.

Action first, think after. Typical.

I really hope he World media picks up on this disgusting episode in Thailands dealing of the Covid Outbreak.

With Social Media, I am sure that many across the Globe already know what Heartless Morons run the so called Land of Smiles. ( now known as Land of Sadness }

Tell the hungry they have to go smile when kicked in the nuts.

It's about social distancing not about money read the article.

Doing this will create the next revolution.

Pattaya City Hall is full of work dodgers from my experience.

Why aren't they giving out food?

Maybe the PM can ask the 1% to fly around in their helicopters and drop food onto the peasants

A well known chain of farang bars in Pattaya has been doing a free food and water 1000 meals a day for a while and organising their own social distancing!!! feeding many Thai people ......... take note over zealous pedantic obstructive staff of certain offices for dealing with westerners!!

Why couldnt the police perform a simple task line organising the queues of people in an orderly fashion, or are they only trained in the art of currency origami?

I suspect a great many members of the "World media" look forward to holidays in Thailand and consequently "self-censor".

In order not to be banned (along with their newspapers/TV channels/chosen medium of expression) they collude in the maintenance of the fantasy image of the happy nation, at ease with itself and living under the benevolent stewardship of its overlords.

Thus the conspiracy of silence will likely continue.

Maybe some tough love is needed. Learn how to queue properly or starve to death. Up to you.

I am really sad that you have the utter disrespect to call this crowd of hungry and poor people in need for idiots. Actually that makes you look like one. Maybe you should try living under the circumstances they are doing right now. Lost their job, no income, family to feed and nothing to put on the table. Then I think that you also would be one of those that falls into a little bit of panic and trying to come as close to the handouts as quick as possible. Probably the only way for you to understand.

Actually the only thing I ask for, is that you use some common sense and understanding before you call them idiots. Would that be so hard?

And the solution to a military coup is another military coup. Thailand excels in this.

What are exactly the priorities here?

Helping people to stand 6 feet apart..

or

Helping people 6 feet under sooner....

The authorities need to make up their mind...

There is no lack of available funds in the Treasury. Thailand has one of the largest currency and gold reserves in Asia, go figure.  That is not for the people, it is to maintain  and grow the power base and wealth of the regime and the Bangkok High ups who support them.
