China may be keeping coronavirus data for commercial gain - Trump adviser

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - White House adviser Peter Navarro charged on Monday that China may be withholding data about early coronavirus infections because it wants to win the commercial race to create a vaccine.

 

The United States, which has been the country worst affected by coronavirus pandemic according to official statistics, has repeatedly calling on Beijing to share early data on the outbreak, which began in China.

 

"One of the reasons that they may not have let us in and given us the data on this virus early, is they're racing to get a vaccine and they think this is just a competitive business race, it's a business proposition so that they can sell the vaccines to the world," Navarro told Fox Business Network.

 

"But we're going to beat them. We're going to beat them because of President Trump's leadership. We're going to beat them because HHS has already got a five-company horse race," said Navarro, referring to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

 

President Donald Trump has named Navarro, an outspoken critic of China, to work on supply-line issues relating to the coronavirus pandemic.

 

There are currently no approved treatments or vaccines for COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus that has killed more than 165,854 globally, with more than 2.41 million infected, according to a Reuters tally as of 1400 GMT Monday.

 

The United States has more than 760,000 confirmed coronavirus cases infections and over 41,100 deaths, nearly half of them in the state of New York.

Oh, this guy is so smart so he got me lost already in the first sentence.

If a country develop a working vaccine, than I suppose that´s the only commercial they will ever need. To me that can not ever be related to how many infections they had or not.

Who cares who finds a vaccine as long as one is found poste haste! Why should China provide any info to Trump when Trump engaged in aggressive trade wars with China! Until the US population realise that Trump is only interested in Trump and money, there is little hope! Work together to save the world! It is not a competitive game! This is serious!

No. But his regular debunking of disgusting fake news at his press briefings will certainly help him in November. His banning Chinese travellers at such an early stage, when the left were attacking him because banning Chinese was "racist" is a real feather in his cap. I encourage him to continue them right up to the election. 

I hope Navarro know that the largest companies that have the production capacities to ramp up large quantity, cheap and fast are in China. I also hope Trump realized by now that vaccine quality for international procurement are assured by WHO through a series of prequalihication requirements. A stamp of approval by WHO is required to assure that the vaccines are safe, effective and of high quality and thus recommended for bulk purchase. So much to say about those uncontrollable free wheeling loud mouths in the WH.

The only fact is that SARS and Covid has started being spread from Wuhan.

 

Is it because of the dirty animal markets in Wuhan, I dont know

 

Is it because of some bats, I dont know

 

Is it because of some accidents from the epidemic sciense laboratories in Wuhan, I dont know

The above link is a statement from the company’s CEO saying it never happened, perhaps you missed the follow up to the original unconfirmed accusations.

We see here an escalating "horse race" (like mentioned) to make gazillions of profits!

Again, this is ONLY money!! Not "saving the human population"!

If it would be so, the researchers would ALL WORK TOGETHER!!

But NO everyone is researching on his own to win the race and SELL !!! MONEY - PROFIT - HUMAN GREED, HUMAN EGOISM!!!!

Not bothered by China being first to find a vaccine. I am sure they will give it away for free - like their virus

What does he mean exactly? China shared the genetic sequence on January 12, could they have shared it one or two weeks earlier? What's the impact on a process that needs around 18 months to get completed?

The uk will be first to a vaccine then we can then use it as part of a brexit trade deal when Boris stops lounging around at chequers ????

advised he made jokes about it for 8 days that it was just a stray Chinamans disease

I know that the Queensland Medical Institute and University of Queensland is working in collaboration with Universities in the Netherlands and other countries.

Most Universities do work in collaboration across the globe

Many researchers across the globe had been working for a decade for a vaccine for SARS Corona, and that work is being used as a base I believe in some instances

Genetic sequence doesn't help them to make a vaccine or antidote. It only shows then the genetic structure to study how it is made up and what it's designed to do. At least that is my understanding of it

QMI had some reasonable results in lab testing, which I believe is what has been shared, and I have been informed that it is close to phase two trials,

I am not in full understanding nor knowledge of the intricacies, as that would be heavily under confidentiality and limited access  I rtesd a report that they had worked on novel corona.
