introducing an “Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration: SHA” certification aimed at elevating the country’s tourism industry standards and developing confidence among international and domestic tourists.

it's going to take more than a 'certification' (whatever that means) to restart Thailand's collapsed tourism sector.

The glory days are finished boys and girls.

The golden goose was killed many moons ago and it will now take an effin miracle to bring the tourists back again.

Now if there were loads of scubbers, to erase teh awful health, safety, air quality and corrution reports.

I feel reassured that people smart enough to topple PMs can manage a bit of whitewash or skinlightening.

While you're at it TAT, also consider printing a list of SHA-certified establishments and services. The list can be as long and exhaustive as it needs to be. Tourists need to be informed and a comprehensive list will help enhance their confidence. Don't worry, the tourists - most of whom can't wait for your borders to reopen, to begin with - will have A LOT OF TIME to read your info as they start their vacation with 14-day quarantine upon landing in Thailand.

Oh yes, I remember when TAT announce about this about a month ago, saying that they will have to change it all and send people to China to learn about hygiene. Only good thing in this is the certificate. It can help us to avoid those places.

No, there is still a bunch of fun to be had here. But the government totally stinks to high heaven and corruption will never cease for lining pockets for those making the rules.

Bring in some legislation covering OH&S then bring in some foreigners competent in it to run things & teach the Thais,  I know quite a few OHS high level people who'd love to come here, they have vastly different backgrounds,  health,  construction & industry, all which Thailand needs

There are no restrictions on foreign OH&S professionals coming here for work, however they do need to do a local Thai qualification from the Dept of Labour and Welfare to work in Thailand.

They would also need to speak a fair bit of Thai and understand cultural nuances to succeed on their own. Much easier if they find work for companies involved with larger projects where there is a lot of support.

Foreigners thinking they can just rock up and tell the Thais what to do because they come from Western countries with higher health and safety standards are in for a rude awakening though.

So if a hotel does everything to qualify for SHA certificate, there needs to be some type of periodic review or enforcement process to ensure the standards are maintained. Also penalties for failing to maintain the standards and withdrawal of the certificate, or perhaps closure of the facility.
