Suchat Pornchaiwiseskul

Department of Employment Director-General Suchat Pornchaiwiseskul said on Wednesday (April 22) he had sent an urgent letter to companies asking them to ensure tight disease-prevention measures for their migrant workers from neighbouring countries.

The move follows a serious outbreak of more than 7,000 Covid-19 cases among migrant workers living in cramped conditions in Singapore.

“The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration cited the outbreak of Covid-19 in Singapore … among migrant workers,” said Suchat.

“Having monitored this significant development, our department has issued preventive measures against the spread of Covid-19 among migrant workers by requesting that employers be responsible for their foreign workers and ensure they strictly comply with disease prevention measures and regulations.”

The disease prevention measures are as follows:

1. Wipe work surfaces clean and dispose of waste every day.

2. Wear sanitary masks or cloth masks and wash your hands with soap, hand sanitiser, or antiseptic solution.

3. Maintain social distancing by working at least one metre apart.

4. Avoid crowding by controlling the number of workers at a site or reducing the time needed for work activities.

Thailand currently has more than 2.5 million (2,660,159) registered migrant workers, according to the Labour Ministry’s Foreign Workers Administration. Included among these are 168,176 skilled workers and 2,446,942 general workers.

They fail to address the actual issue here which is small over crowded living conditions.

Where do all these migrant workers live and in what kind of conditions, that's the important point

In Singapore they have 1000's of these 'migrant workers' crammed into massive buildings containing many dormitories full of bunkbeds in shared rooms - that's how they're all catching it. There's 200k of them across some 50 huge packed to the rafters dorm buildings and quite a few of them have COVID. This alone will be South Koreas downfall.

it is the government that is responsible for this but as usual they keep passing it on to someone else

Rewind,

If they have been here for the last 2 months working or waiting to work they should now pose no threat.

The conditions he outlined apply to ALL workers.

ANY worker new or returning from outside the country MUST be fully tested at the border (back charge their employer) & I don't mean just a temp check, & wait for results before leaving the border.

Mr Employment Director you must do this or the results will be catastrophic

Hopefully Thailand will Learn from Singapores mistake?

 - the Lesson:

= Do Not Ghetto all your foreigners into a sealed shoe box
