Guards chief: U.S. warships will be destroyed if they threaten Iran in Gulf

DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran will destroy U.S. warships if its security is threatened in the Gulf, the head of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards told state TV on Thursday, a day after U.S. President Donald Trump warned Tehran over “harassment” of U.S. vessels.

 

“I have ordered our naval forces to destroy any American terrorist force in the Persian Gulf that threatens security of Iran’s military or non-military ships,” Hossein Salami said.

“Security of the Persian Gulf is part of Iran’s strategic priorities.”

 

Trump said on Wednesday he had instructed the U.S. Navy to fire on any Iranian ships that harass it at sea, but said later he was not changing the military’s rules of engagement.

 

Earlier this month, the U.S. military said 11 Revolutionary Guards naval vessels from the Guards navy came close to U.S. Navy and coast guard ships in the Gulf, calling the moves “dangerous and provocative”.

 

Iran blamed its longtime adversary for the incident.

 

“I am telling the Americans that we are absolutely determined and serious in defending our national security, our water borders, our shipping safety, and our security forces, and we will respond decisively to any sabotage,” Salami said.

 

“Americans have experienced our power in the past and must learn from it.”

 

Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated anew since 2018, when Trump withdrew from Tehran’s 2015 nuclear deal with six world powers and reimposed crippling sanctions.

Oh I don’t think that would be a very good idea Iran unless you want your navy destroyed in one afternoon with conventional weapons it’s imo what we should have done when they trashed our embassy (by proxy) in Iraq

So these pukes take their navy/coast guard ships and be provocative with them towards US military ships in international waters, get threatened with being blown out of the water, and then hammer their little stupid fists in the air like they were done so wrongly. 

 

FYI Iran is a terrorist nation and security in the Persian Gulf is not their priority. Probing US ships and testing reactions is their priority and if they felt they were strong enough they would take the whole Persian Gulf, thereby controlling the largest bulk oil shipping lanes globally. 

So the neighborhood bully says to the heavy weight champ...be gone before I beat you to a pulp!   ????

The only question is if it is considered international waters. 

It's Politics 101 - - whenever a country is faced with domestic problems, its leader will try to get its people to rally 'round the flag and look for an external enemy to target. Iran's Ly'atollah has failed, on COVID-19, so he resurrects the US, as the "Great Satan," while US' Ly'a-in-Chief has flubbed, on COVID-19, so he resurrects the Iranian nuclear threat. One thing I can add is that in my personal belief........ IRAN COULD blow one of our warships out of the water...... Very possible (They have a few powerful missles).......... BUT (and it is a big BUT).......... What will be flying at them as soon as they do it??????????    The USA (and allies as Isreal and a few others) already has so many powerful weapons pointed directly at them (Iran)........ and after they blow our ship out of the water, the whole country of Iran will become a desert wasteland (without living inhabitants - similar to Hiroshima, Japan)......... THE USA has a bit of experience in these matters..... We may lose a few but their losses will be 'manyfold' (including their rulers and ALL their NUCLEAR facilities ..

I don't disagree about parking lots, Little Boxes is one of my favourite folk songs. Buying things to impress? Do you live in Thailand?  As for smart people, I don't think it's a left-right thing which I was trying to point out. But I think the smartest folks know the reasons why the world is, and has always been, a complex mess. They don't just blame their favourite boogeyman.

'Ships' by definition is seperated from 'boats'...... OVER 100 FEET is a SHIP........

The US Navy ships may NOT be able to run them over, to sink them, but they sure as heck have guns enough (or rockets) to do it.......

Blame is bla bla bla me me me. Something Trump does a lot when he’s not Bullying or Firing. Smart folks come in all shapes and sizes. Don’t live in Little Boxes. Lateral Thinkers. Doers. Planners. And not always rich.
