It occurred to me the Covid 19 pandemic has revealed a few different categories of TVF members. Perhaps some straddle two categories, but I think most fall into one. Personally I'm in the optimist camp, and I think that's a pretty healthy place to be. But then I'm biased (as you can see from my descriptions ????)

Thoughts?

Optimists

- Looking at positive data and taking hope from it

- Having faith that most governments are doing their best to combat the virus (why wouldn't they?)

- Anticipating an end to the pandemic within a reasonable time frame

Eternal Critics

- Dismiss any positive data as fake, irrelevant etc.

- It's all the government's fault / My government is doing better than yours

- Lockdowns are wrong / Lockdowns are not tough enough

Pessimists

- Actively searching for negative data to share with us all

- Repeating the 'second wave' / 'we're all doomed' mantra

- Predicting a global depression for the next 20-30 years

- Covid 19 pandemic is going to be with us forever

Conspiracy theorists

- It's all about 5G

- It's all about government control

Pessimist (Realist)

It will keep coming back in waves, reinfection will wipe out everyone. If it doesn’t, something newer and stronger will, just around the corner...

I just got off emailing with my Chinese lady and I got dumbfounded.

The way she sounded, the tone of writing, is the (stupid) foreign countries mishandled the COVID, etc.

She has no shame or sorry for the original cause of the epidemic.

The government control of China is as efficient as North Korea.

I don't know whether I would continue this relationship.

There def needs to be a realist option which crosses over into the pessimistic one I guess.

Life is never going to be the same for many.....fact.

Today’s report that half of the Worlds jobs could be wiped out. Realistic or Pessimistic?

Thailand seems to be getting on with it better than most. Ignorance or reality? Time will tell.

Things over here in the UK are as grim as ever. No sign of any let up, care home deaths rocketing, more and more people desperate for money.

First time for over a month the number of cars on the road increased.
Resilience is weakening. People want some sign of positivity but every night the same message.

Half the world's jobs could be wiped out short term, but there will surely be a surge in demand after all the lockdowns, creating new businesses and jobs quite rapidly. There's my optimism again!

I'm also in the UK currently. I don't see more and more people desperate for money. I do see resilience weakening, and patience running out. But What I see (hear) mostly is the press asking 'gotcha' type questions all the time, trying to make a name for themselves. And I think that just increases the negativity and anxiety in the public unnecessarily.

Are you saying she describes the Chinese and North Korean government methods as 'efficient'? ????????????

Think for yourself

Question authority

"Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness; chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself." -- Timothy Leary

Think for yourself.

Question authority.

From what I see, many people want the governments to think and act for them, and then spend all their time criticising the governments' decisions.

It is there, one has to live with it. ( Fatalist?)

It can be annoying ( Realist?)

No booze for an indefinite time/permanent ( Pessimist?)

They will maintain the curfew, so quiet at night ( Optimist? )

I’m not in any particular camp, I just don’t want to get it, although I suspect that the vast majority will as this will circulate for years to come.
