BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand reported six new coronavirus cases and no new death on Friday, taking its tally to 2,960 infections while fatalities remained at 54 since the outbreak began in January.

Great news. Now stop complaining that you're poor or can't buy a bottle of beer to enjoy in the privacy of your own home. Just be grateful you can take your pets to be groomed or enjoy a round of golf

Six cases in a nation of 65 million isn't even noise, it's irrelevant. Come on P., lift the booze ban and let's start getting things back to normal. You've made your point to the owners of Boon Rawd and ThaiBev that you're cheesed off they didn't contribute to your fund,  but neither did Khun Dhanin, and you haven't closed all the 7-elevens now, have you?

Surprise. Surprise. Surprise.

I'd be wanting to see it closer to 2 per day before I'd be confident to leave my garden...

Even then, I'd be reluctant if people weren't wearing masks and gloves !!

  • Popular Post

I am satisfied with this number, stay safe, everyone.

You can bet if it goes up to 8 tomorrow, the government will say "the case rate has gone up 33%, we need to extend the booze ban through June because of this spike".

I'd want it at zero cases per day over a decade; only then might I consider venturing out to my local 7-11 in full haz-mat gear.  And I wouldn't touch the alcohol either.  I hear that drinking alcohol makes you a super-spreader.

Amazing Thailand, they like to be No.1... Economic meltdown, misery for only 54 deaths to date. That number of people on average are killed on the roads on a daily basis...

It's 54 deaths because they have come down like a ton of bricks on covid-19, unlike the US and UK. Would you prefer their figures?

They sure did... 2 months between 1st confirmed case and shutting the borders...

Boom, take that Covid 19 !!

Might be something to do with the amount (read lack of) of testing done too, just a thought..

So where are the bodies? Where are the caskets queued outside the temples? Where are the hospitals with Covid patients overflowing into the corridors? 187 currently in hospital with Covid. 16,500 in UK.

It is a 4 day holiday ,in my area, this morning  Lopburi ,the roads are full ,the maine  Saraburi-Lomsark road is  full of cars going North for the long weekend ,most have Bangkok registration plates .

The government are saying as per OP cases are dropping, lets see if the end of next week cases have gone up.

Re booze shut down, if cases do go up the Thai lent has come early this year .

Note.Thai lent starts at the full moon in July and lasts 3 months ,a lot of Thai's will give up alcohol for the lent period.

The active cases are so low now (213) that they can actively monitor each active case, and test those close to each individual case.

If they are unsure if the wider population have the virus or not, then they need to ramp up testing a lot more.  That's a lot more affective than not knowing where the virus is and having contradictory lockdown measures (no alcohol, but you can eat together).

They just don't have the test kits. Same story in US and UK.

Any conflicting reports from the local authoritities today, like the Phuket 7 or the partygoer?

The test kits are swabs, the container for the swab and the PCR reagents. By now, if they were serious, they would be producing them locally in mass here in Thailand.

And not even a whisper from the PTT/MIT/co test kits. Gone with the wind.

3 minutes ago, Phil McCaverty said:

I think its the reagent thats proving difficult to procure although Trump did brag about aquiring a shedload of swabs (cotton buds to him).

There was already a thread in TVF about a company (Siam something) manufacturing them locally. The batches are probably tiny. Phuket leaked out they were doing 10 tests in a day in the Phuket 7 thread a couple of days back.

So 187 then.

Why mention 2800 past cases? They're history.

Let's just hope that the 'reported' numbers remain below 30 per day for the next 14 days so then more restrictions will be lifted as stated.
