Devotees count the days to regain access to Phra Phuttha Chinnarat

An atmosphere of peace prevailed on Saturday (May 2) at Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat in Phitsanulok, home to Phra Phuttha Chinnarat, considered one of the most beautiful and classical Buddha figures in Thailand.

Every morning citizens who are out exercising or travelling stop in front of the temple to pay their respects to the Phra Phuttha Chinnarat enshrined in the monastery.

Officials at the temple said that steel gate in front of the temple will be opened on Sunday (May 3) to allow people to worship a replica of the Phra Buddha Chinnarat.

“The temple implemented public health measures to contain the spread of Covid-19 virus, such as maintaining social distancing and providing alcohol gels and washbasin for people,” the officials said. “Meanwhile, the temple will be officially reopened on May 11.”

I guess thats like Christians worshipping a replica of Jesus Christ.

Principally Catholic Christians who were (and in some quarters still are) derided by Protestant Christians as "Idolaters":

And many Muslims regard the Trinitarian concept of Christian Deity as polytheistic.
