I thnk you will find that the fools are the foreigners who were flouting the law.

and what about the Thais serving them - I assume they didn't break in and serve themselves - who was breaking the law exactly ?

A few people having private drink behind closed doors. Don't see what they did wrong.

Same as the Japanese restaurant near us.

They have regular "private parties" with the same people who are their regular customers.

They didnt state religion or ethnicity. They said foreigners.

I think you've become indoctrinated into believing the worst, and that's not really a healthy attitude. IMO, many posters on here can only post negative comments, whatever the subject, which indicates that living away from their home country is not the utopian outcome they'd anticipated.

that's the idea!  it attracts eyeballs.

most of the clickbait "foreigners caught" headlines are written by the website staff, not the thai paper, or in this case facebook article.

Put it this way Peter. If the same scenario had happened in your country, e.g. US or UK, I doubt the report would highlight your citizens breaking the law, when it's more newsworthy to blame foreigners for leading your citizens astray.

On the contrary.  If this happened in my country, a reporter from an "disreputable" news outlet might somehow find out foreigners illegally in the country were involved, and be called "racist" for talking about it.

Powerful organizations would immediately begin calling for all their social-media accounts to be closed - an effort which would likely be successful, especially if they committed this horrible "hate" offense more than once.

The mainstream news reports in my country would have said "Pattaya Residents found disobeying ...."  - with no mention what so ever that any of the accused were not citizen-nationals.

We should thank the customers of this bar to support the Thai owner, the Thai staff and the Thai economy to not suffer even more under the Corona panic.

The money they spent there was most probably desperately needed to feed quite a few Thai families.

Unfortunately the place is closed now, and the Thai staff and the ones depending on them will be back to no income.

Yeah yeah, I know what you say, "these irresponsible Corona spreaders, they kill us all", but guess what? No Corona there, nada, nobody infected. Sorry to disappoint.

Noticeable once again "Foreigners" highlighted first in the headlines.....why not "Thai Bar flouting alcohol ban"..........:whistling:

And once again it's ThaiVisa who highlighted it this way.

It's not this way on the original thai article.

So you know who to complain to... ????

The Pussy Cat is a "double shophouse" bar on Nern Plurb Wan.

Looking at it, there are 2 floors of apartments above it on the street side and 3 floors on the back side. Maybe 10 apartments in total.
From the looks of it, access to the apartments is through the left side of the bar as there doesn't appear to be an exterior door (except for a small one on the side of the building at the rear).

3 foreigners and 5 Thais = 3 guys with their wives/girlfriends, plus the Thai owner and 1 other girl (staff or maybe also living in an apartment above).

I've seen it before where an "owner" will still have at least one girl working if they have any customers at all. The owner mixes the drinks and handles the cash, the other girl serves the customers, cleans the tables and washes the glasses).

The foreigners (possibly/probably/maybe) also live in the apartments above the bar.

There will always be people who think the rules don't (or shouldn't) apply to them. There will always be people who think they are special.

Right now, there are a few less of those people on the streets and some of them may be finding out that they aren't so special after all (and possibly a lot poorer to boot) !

And yes, the ban on bars is still in effect, as is the ban on selling alcohol in restaurants.

Very much so, the ethnicity of those grooming young females was stoically avoided mentioning.

IMO, this news arrest is small beer in the whole scheme of things where the coronavirus is causing more global deaths per day than Thailand has suffered since December 2019. Of course, communal gathering could be an infection trigger, but is the risk low enough to control a local outbreak?

Having said that, yes it's totally irresponsible and shows contempt for the millions abiding by the law - fine and deport the foreigners as an example to others.

Maybe they think Corna is a overblown joke and they are tired of staying at home alone and want to interact with others....

I know I'm special (and the rules don't apply to me).

Actually I personally know several Thais that will drink any given amount.

But probably know more ex-pats that would do the same; any given amount.......................

We should use the term aliens instead.

Well, according to a certain Thai Health Minister, we are all "dirty farangs who don't shower". Surprised whoever is writing these articles on ThaiVisa isn't using the same terminology.

"Many farang dress dirty and don’t shower." = Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on 13 March.

Bring back Alf Garnett. Racism has always been present in the UK, except it's pushed under the carpet by the PC brigade.

and the "foreigners" were dragged into the bar.....:clap2:

You surely have been around long enough to know the answer to your question mate. if there were no foreigners wanting to drink they would have not opened so it is the foreigners fault. Just like accidents if we weren't in the country the accident would have not happened 555

Stephen there is nothing wrong with calling people out or having an opinion - the fact we are in Thailand and reading Thai news usually means that the subject matter of the discussion involves Thailand, you are telling people about unhealthy/healthy attitude which is in fact showing your "unhealthy" attitude to other posters because they have an opinion).

As for utopia - what on earth does that mean, we all have had our various reasons for living in or visiting Thailand - I don't think anyone posting on TVF is under any illusion about Thailand being some sort of Utopia - my own opinion after 15 years living here is that many things have changed, can't think of any that were positive changes and if it continues that way I might have to re-evaluate my options, I do however reserve the right to comment on whatever I see fit and whatever I feel directly affects me - so my advice to you is deal with it or find something else to read  ????

Yeah, sure. I also have the right to make comment as it's my opinion. So my advice to you is to accept what's good for the geese is also good for the gander.

And IMO, I would stand by my original post as being statistically correct. Ex-pats are a load of whingers wherever they're based.
