The chief of the Chonburi police has instructed the Pattaya police to conduct an inquiry into claims that an 80 year old French resident of the resort had his passport taken away from him and was extorted out of 2,000 baht.

Pim, in her forties, the wife of the Frenchman earlier appealed to the media after her husband and a group of compatriots and a Belgian were taken into custody for flouting the Pattaya beach ban due to the coronavirus pandemic.

She claimed that a bail bondsman had taken 50,000 baht from them and the police had not only kept her husband's passport but charged the group 2,000 baht to be taken home after their case dragged on to 1am past the end of curfew time.

Yesterday Lt-Col Sumeth Hanwisai, head of investigation at Pattaya police, told Naew Na that provincial chief Pol Maj-Gen Prakan Prajong had instructed the Pattaya station chief Pol Col Khemmarin Phitsamai to call all sides in to get to the truth of the matter.

Lt-Col Sumeth said he would head the inquiry and promised that if police officers had broken the law they would be prosecuted.

An announcement about the case will be made within two days.

I bet there are literally hundereds of farang who have had a similar experience when unfortunate enough to fall foul of those crooks

Google translate, part of article in Naew Na.

The latest progress was on May 4, 2020. Pol. Maj. Sumet Hanwisai, Chief Investigation Officer. Pattaya police said that from the said case, Pol.Col. Pol.Col. Prachabunjong, Ph.D., Police in Chonburi Province ordered Col. Khemmarin Phisamai, Police General Manager, Pattaya City Police Appoint a committee to investigate the said facts. By calling him the head of a thorough investigation from both the injured party And police officers Including the insurance claimant with claims

Today, all foreigners arrested on that day have been called to provide details. Including foreign wives singing in the media For a thorough interrogation Including investigating the insurance insurer who made matters for foreigners Which requesting time within 2 days, will summarize the facts In order to reveal to society how it is If anyone is found guilty, regardless of whether they are police officers, they will definitely be prosecuted in accordance with legal procedures.

Errors possible, after all, its google translate.

Police investigate fellow police officers.

I am reliably informed the chief of Pattaya police has been informed, spoken with the parties involved and will launch an investigation and get back to them with the outcome within 48 hours....

I reported as such yesterday in the initial thread...now confirmed....let,s hope the case will now be dealt with fairly.....:jap:

Last night a guy violating curfew was made to sing the Thai National Anthem. Walking on the beach sidewalk is surely a lesser crime. Could have had them sing their own anthem.

Noooo, a french guy would never stop singing.......

And their National song is pure blood and gore if translated.

I give you the first 3 verses.

Verse 1:

Let's go children of the fatherland,

The day of glory has arrived!
Against us tyranny's
Bloody flag is raised! (repeat)
In the countryside, do you hear
The roaring of these fierce soldiers?
They come right to our arms
To slit the throats of our sons, our friends!

Refrain:

Grab your weapons, citizens!
Form your battalions!
Let us march! Let us march!
May impure blood
Water our fields!

Verse 2:

This horde of slaves, traitors, plotting kings,
What do they want?
For whom these vile shackles,
These long-prepared irons? (repeat)
Frenchmen, for us, oh! what an insult!
What emotions that must excite!
It is us that they dare to consider
Returning to ancient slavery!

Verse 3:

What! These foreign troops
Would make laws in our home!
What! These mercenary phalanxes
Would bring down our proud warriors! (repeat)
Good Lord! By chained hands
Our brows would bend beneath the yoke!
Vile despots would become
The masters of our fate!

Hard questions will be asked and answers pursued with dogged determination, such as

"Where's my cut?"

Lovely anthem. Always enjoyed it before watching French national team play rugby.

There will be no Thai police prosecuted ! For that to happen they have to murder someone in full view of dozens of witnesses

Possibly a "cold case" review in 20 years time when the elderly gentleman is relaxing on that tropical beach "in the sky".
