daveAustin
Impact will be much longer for those countries that rely on tourism. Quote Prayuth said he might ask more rich people for cooperation in addressing the economic fall-out from the outbreak Surely your military buddies won't put their hands in their pockets? But as much as I can't stand what he's doing to the place, he does have some cool shirts. Matching mask a bit ott, but.
jaiyen
The virus will affect the world for many years to come, but Mister know it all is telling Thai people it could be 9 months ! Full of BS ! There wont even be international flights this year, look at other countries. They are in one hell of a mess with hundreds dying every day, This is a global problem that the PM knows nothing about.

Blumpie
I nearly spit my tea out when I saw his matching mask.... ???? That just made my day. The inanity of the situation knows no bounds. The results will be felt for years. I understand for people like him he doesn't understand that wealth is being wiped out all over the world and tourism is not going to be a tap that will be turned on like a faucet. The bodies are piling up in front of the hospitals and they don't know what to do with them. It's always been like that there's just a whole lot more of them now. Word around the campfire is they are going to run out of wood to burn all the bodies by the time this is through.

Snackbar
’The Thai National Shippers’ Council (TNSC) expects exports this year to contract by 8 percent’ When you go to the mom & pop shop, spend B99.00, hand over a hundred Baht note and observe the calculator come out to do the math. or Wait aimlessly as the shop assistant counts your change three times and insist on microwaving cold ham.

brucegoniners
Only 9 months? He's dreaming. This thing will have an impact on the Thai economy for a minimum of 2 years. People aren't going to be in a hurry to travel, especially to anywhere in Asia. Sadly most of the world sees no difference between here and China. And the only people who will come here are the cheap ass Indians and Chinese, thus revenues will be much lower than ever. 1

3NUMBAS
https://uk.news.yahoo.com/coronavirus-scientists-identify-more-contagious-mutant-coronavirus-strain-182200239.html Scientists say they have identified a mutation in coronavirus which they believe means a more contagious strain has been sweeping Europe and the US - and could even reinfect those who already have antibodies. Researchers at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the US detected 14 mutations in the COVID-19 virus spike proteins, one of which - known as Spike D614G - they said was of "urgent concern". Their research paper suggests the mutated strain of coronavirus that has become dominant across the world was first indentified in Europe and is different to those which spread early on in the pandemic. So urgent is the issue that the research paper describing their findings has been made available before being peer-reviewed, although this has caused concern among some observers. By analysing more than 6,000 genetic sequences of coronavirus samples taken from patients globally, the researchers found the mutated strain was persistently becoming the most dominant version of the virus in every region it was detected in. While first discovered in Europe in early February, the researchers believe the coronavirus mutation has now become the most prevalent strain across the whole of the world. The study indicates it has been consistently out-competing the original strain detected in Wuhan, which spread through that region of China and some other Asian countries before March. Dr Bette Korber, the study's lead author, said: "The story is worrying, as we see a mutated form of the virus very rapidly emerging, and over the month of March becoming the dominant pandemic form. "When viruses with this mutation enter a population, they rapidly begin to take over the local epidemic, thus they are more transmissible." The mutation to the spike protein has caused concern because this is one of the most effective parts of the virus, and the aspect which most treatments and vaccines are targeting. Thomas J
21 hours ago, webfact said: Thai PM says coronavirus impact may last another nine months He is wrong. The virus will likely subside in months. It hardly has been a pandemic in Thailand to being with having only 52 deaths. However the destruction of the economy both in Thailand and around the world will last for many years. Businesses that took decades to build have been destroyed in weeks. Numerous small shops, restaurants, tourist stops, etc will never reopen. They will not have the money to get started again. Limiting seating at restaurants particularly with no alcohol only guarantees that they if open would do so losing money each and every day.

This is exactly what my go-to theory has been for the last few weeks, that Thailand got a weaker strain that went through Thailand without many even noticing. Questions now are, do many Thais have antibodies (could be tested if the usurpers opened the purse strings), if so, does it provide immunity and has the other strain arrived (According to Nextstrain it has, in late Feb/early March).
