I think as you mentioned it may be the norm for 6 - 12 months , however once the figures become so minimal on infections and death it won't be significant and i expect the vaccine will be available, so one would think after this time folks will stop wearing masks and slowly go back to how it was pre-covid. imo

I would say that the figures are already not significant here in Thailand.  But, I know plenty of people who are still terrified of catching the virus they hardly leave their homes now and have stopped all the things they enjoyed doing outdoors.  They also seem to enjoy all the restrictions and rules, and hate anyone who does not mindlessly obey every new rule that comes out...

And then there are people who ignored HIV and people who ignore Covid. Because for whatever reason they think they are smarter than everybody else. And why should they listen to experts?

Darwin is working to solve this problem...

And, there are many people who at irrational fear of HIV, thinking they could catch if from someone sneezing, or sitting on a toilet seat, or even touching another person.  The same is happening with the Covid 19 virus, many irrational people living in fear and seemingly lost their ability for rational thinking.

That would be the ones who have chosen the herd mentality over the herd immunity.

Not all the illnesses allow a 80% probability of not being sick, or only very lightly.

People who get a cancer are not so lucky... same for diabetes and countless others...
