Pence says he would welcome Trump ex-adviser Flynn's return - Axios

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Vice President Mike Pence on Sunday said he would welcome Michael Flynn's return to the Trump administration after the U.S. Justice Department's controversial move last week to drop criminal charges against the president's former national security adviser.

In an interview with online news site Axios, Pence was asked if he would like Flynn to return to work for President Donald Trump. "For my part, I'd be happy to see Michael Flynn again," Pence said, and defended the department's action. (https://bit.ly/2LdHp1u)

Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to federal investigators more than two years ago. In 2017, Trump said he had fired Flynn for misleading Pence about his dealings with Russia's U.S. ambassador Sergey Kislyak in the weeks before Trump took office.

Pence's statement could help pave the way for Flynn, a retired Army lieutenant general and 2016 Trump campaign adviser, to return to the president's orbit if the courts grant the department's request.

Flynn, charged under former Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation that detailed Moscow's interference in the 2016 U.S. election, initially pleaded guilty and vowed to cooperate with U.S. prosecutors before hiring new lawyers and reversing himself.

On Thursday, the Justice Department asked a judge to drop criminal charges against Flynn amid mounting pressure from the Republican president and his political allies, sparking criticism from Democrats and others who accused Attorney General William Barr of improperly protecting Trump's friends and associates.

It is unclear how the federal judge handling the case will proceed.

Flynn's lawyer Sidney Powell told Fox News in an interview on Sunday she expected U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan in Washington to sign off on the department's request this week.

Last month, Trump told reporters he might rehire Flynn and would weigh Pence's comments on the matter, and on Sunday re-aired his grievances with a slew of related retweets.

Critics have accused Trump of becoming emboldened after his February acquittal in his Senate impeachment trial to interfere in cases involving people close to him. Democratic lawmakers have also called on the department's internal watchdog to investigate the Flynn matter.

Great idea! Given how Flynn was railroaded by the swamp, he's in a very good position to recognize and do something about its cfreatures.

Let’s see what Judge Sullivan has to say first.

"Trump said he had fired Flynn for misleading Pence about his dealings with Russia's U.S. ambassador Sergey Kislyak..."

How do you spin this? Maybe trump saying "I was lying about why he was fired. You know me, what did you expect?"

Forget lying to FBI, forget working secretly for foreign government, forget two guilty pleas

Trump would do it just to <deleted> off those who might still believe in rule of law

Mr Pence, that is two times you have spoken this month. Please stop as people may think you are actually a real person.

Great Idea let Flynn out and at the same time release all the other criminals who served Trump.Put them all in the White House to continue to serve Trump in their corrupt, lying and dishonest ways. Trump can use these to finally fill the swamp after his great job of draining it.A great country dragged into the gutter by a greedy, selfish and immoral male. He cannot be called a man as he would fail all the tests.

Flynn has been mistreated but did lie (stupidly) but he was set up (obviously). The State should refund his legal bills. As for a job that's highly unlikely and MSM is just being mischievous as usual.

Good guys out and bad guys in policy. So Trump.

I'm confused!  He pleaded guilty to lying, and that was a statement freely given to investigators while under caution and under oath in court.  So now he claims to be lying when he said at first he was lying.  Seems to be little point taking him back on the WH staff, he might as well run for President.

Did the judge handling this case not say it was an outright case of treason on the part of Flynn? Interesting if he ignores the completely unbiased and apolitical Justice Dept here. Sure he should go and work for an indicted coconspirator, hell, soon you could just put walls and bars around the White House.

Jailbirds in the White House. Trump heading to the lock up if defeated. He’s cunning enough to win.

Let’s see what Judge Sullivan has to say first.

Whatever Sullivan says or does with Flynn will most likely have little or no impact on what Washington and the general public's perception of Flynn is and it cannot negate the hack-job, sham/hoax illegal prosecution, rife with lies,  Brady/constitutional violations, corruption, etc is but it will certainly cast doubts on Sullivan's ability to administer justice without political bias.

Either way, Flynn wins, Trump wins as Flynn's case is either discharged in federal court today, tomorrow, sometime this week or he's rightfully awarded a full presidential pardon.

Wait and see, but my money is on Sullivan accepting prosecution/defense joint submission.

U think the country would be better served by the psycho pathological liars like adam schiff and his band of misfits?

Why not? What's another criminal in the WH gonna do. Heck, it might actually raise the level of morality there!

He can welcome him. After all, he only lied to him about his contacts with an hostile foreign government. No problem! ????

This is the original judge who very carefully questioned Flynn if he understood the charges and what his guilty plea involved. The same judge still has to approve Barr's boot licking decision. It will be most interesting to see how this plays out.

He is going to drop it. Because its not a boot licking decision. It was a miscarriage of justice. You don't see this for what it is...this entire Russian hoax nonsense? Still?  Indictments are coming.

You still have zero understanding of what is happening and what has happened here. You were wrong on Trumps election, wrong on Mueller result, wrong on Impeachment, you are still wrong, and still just don't get it. You will be wrong on re-election as well. The Democrat party will not survive 2020. I still continue to hold that as highly probable. And Americans will loathe these people when this is over.

No he did not. Now be a smart man, go look up what Flynn was charged with precisely, and what the judge said, ludicrous as it was. Then look up what the FBI said and did in this case. Flynn committed NO crime. Is a patriot. I hope he has a job waiting in the administration after Trump wins re-election, if not before.

You seem to be enjoying this rare moment in DOJ history in which the AG dismissed this case for political reasons even though his case was a legitimate charge and he pleaded guilty under oath. These same arguments of entrapment and prosecutorial overreach will be presented to a judge who has a history of holding prosecutors accountable and will be most likely to reject the case. In the eyes of Trump, he is a patriot and thus be pardoned.

If his return helps Durham's criminal investigation into the obama admin's doj, fbi, cia  and other cabinet positions that were involved in the generals setup ,right on Mr. Vice President !

If he could be used as a  witness before  his new position in the WH what ever is best suited for his expert statements as a  key witness!

this being a diversion to move attention away from the real problems at the WH and the low ratings as well.... as soon as this one is over he will start another one and this time will be the pardon of Roger Stones, he needs to create diversion until November
