Covid-19: Netizens praise foreigner for handing out free gasoline in Phuket

Daily News reported that Netizens in Phuket were full of praise for an Australian handing out free gasoline to motorcyclists in Patong.

They referred to him as the kind hearted "Aussie" in their banner headline.

However, a Facebook post by Godzilla and a sign indicated they had got the continent wrong.

Mr Willy was from Austria.

A sign at the Bang Jak gas station said that free gas would be handed out for an hour yesterday to bikers (except people like delivery drivers and motorcycle taxis).

The kind gesture had many online praising the foreigner, wherever he and his friends were from!

Lets remember, working class thais have been hit hard now and it's not just about food to survive. The stress for those struggling to pay the rent etc. A kind gesture from this farang.

As you say, Moron is a bit harsh. However, as to wearing a mask, it depends on the type of mask. These flimsy green and white stripe things are useless, but a proper cotton mask will give possibly the best protection. They are also washable and so can be used about 5 times.

.......and meanwhile, Phuket's leading super-rich families do nothing. You can chuck in all the rich land-lords that won't temporarily lower their tenant's rent with that lot, too. Disgraceful!

Not "totally" useless - if you have the virus and you cough or sneeze, they can stop the droplets from getting through. But to wear one yourself as a means of protection from the virus - totally agree. And the Minister of Health should know by now!

Absolutely so correct the super rich Thai don’t do fkuc all to help their own folk it takes us Falangs to help karma will come back to them as it is now thanks to their friends from China ????????????????????

Karma? No, these people will never face consequences.........they never do.

Sorry but I don't share the happy feelz for this "gesture". The guy is handing out gas for people who aren't really in dire need, meanwhile contributing to the already widespread stereotype of farang as rich and gullible making us all targets later on when the need becomes greater (and it will become greater - there is no way Thailand goes back to business as usual this year).

One foreigner helps gives out some free Gasaline and this somehow confirms the negative bias of some posters with chip on their shoulder that the wealthy Thai's are doing nothing - In reality it just highlights the unbalanced negative bias of some posters.

I've seen plenty of Wealthy Thai's handing out fairly significant sums of money (people queuing up) and also preparing and handing out food.

Benevolence is not only displayed by foreigners in Thailand - the very thought would be idiotic.

The 'don't Tip because it ruins it for the rest of us' argument is sentenced, selfish and a little dumb - There is nothing wrong at all with assistance of any form being provided by those who can regardless of nationality.

Riiiight. And people who think like this is why you can't get a taxi to run the meter in tourist areas, have to pay higher prices for same service sometimes, and generally regarded as "cheap charlie" if you dare be frugal. Sorry but this one is true - many Thais view all foreigners as "rich" and doing stupid <deleted> like tipping too much makes it worse.

At this time giving out food to the real needy is admirable, but gasoline to random people (who may not even need it) just seems.. wrong.

Talk to Thais that rent property. It's black and white. Rent isn't being lowered even though the tenant's business is closed.

Please give us one example of one of the main five families being charitable. Haven't seen a single article in any publication showing their charity.

Also, this is not my opinion, it's the opinion of local Thais that I have spoken with.

Ordinary people have always contributed vastly more as a percentage of their total wealth than the rich. Very generous and kind hearted of these guys to help the average person. Fortunately for them gas prices are at an all time low.

Give him a break most likely the guy footing the majority of the bill it is more than what the leaders are doing.

no karma won't get them, Same as if the foreigners helping now get into trouble in the future will the locals come to their help..probably not. If the immigration rules change and the foreigners helping out now giving away free stuff do not qualify will the thais make an exception for them...nope.

It's great to see so many foreigners helping out but if the shoe was on the other foot the same would not happen.
