British police arrest 19 at London protest against social distancing

It used to be slam-downs were for violent criminals ....... now you can get it for a walk in the park.

I remember the past when some trivial offence like'being in the park when it was closed' would be a policeman shouting, "Oi .... get out" from the distance.

Presumably you'd be all in favour of police shooting motorists driving at 31 in the 30mph area?

How about illegal parking?

You dunno how he was behaving prior to his arrest. Some of these demonstrators can be quite physical themselves. Remember the poll tax riots.

Peaceful demonstrators usually move on when told to and are treated accordingly. The one in the photo was probably being uncooperative and probably insulting or even spitting at the coppers. That's what some of 'em do nowadays.

Someone recently spat at a female railway ticket inspector, she died a few days later of Covid 19.

As you well know from Thai Visa, that is irrelevant  -  it seems many posters are either above the law or choose the laws that they abide by, and those that they don't.

This was a deliberately confrontational political protest, claiming the pandemic is fake,

and not some innocent bystanders getting pounced on by the police. Recognise this guy?

As for the headline photo, obviously incited; yeah, we all know the trick - "Police Brutality, Police Brutality".

So what? since when was it illegal to demonstrate in the UK? It just goes to show how far down the slippery slope to Fascism the world is going. And the sheep seem to love it...

Amazing England where the police 'bully boys' can crush innocent people walking in the park to the ground.

Without knowing the full story, it's hard to comment on one photo.

If the arrested man was struggling violently, assaulting officers and resisting arrest, then that force would be appropriate.

However, if they simply piled in, then they are guilty of watching too many American cop shows / films and should face discipline and possible charges.

Would be interesting if there was a video available.

Plod acting as Parliaments Army doesn't bode well under the 1688 bill of rights & I couldn't help noticing a number of fines have been dismissed by the appropriate authorities which presumably will lead to charges for wrongful arrest/malicious prosecution being brought against them in due course.

Successive UK governments, both parties, have tried to ignore the Bill of Rights. And many Home Secretaries, including May who tried it on more than most, have tried to pretend the police are controlled by the executive.

They are not. They are not controlled by central government. That's why we have regional forces, with their own Chief Constable, accountable to locally elected Commissioners, or Police Committees made up of local elected councilors.

Many of today's younger police officers don't receive appropriate training as to the rights of citizens, and their duties as police officers. Successive governments don't do anything to educate the public or the police about this.

How else can you explain the extreme reaction of all governments to a virus that seems slightly more dangerous than the common cold?

A virus that the UK's own police don't seem to fear.

Admittedly it does seem a bit strange that the plod aren't wearing masks.

The ones grappling with the man on the ground aren't even wearing gloves!

I'm pretty sure the police tried to disperse the crowd verbally first. And when they don't comply, they have to retort to tougher to a more hands on approach.

If you compare society today with 20 years ago, I agree there is a huge difference. Today nobody respects authorities, and everybody believes they are the center of the universe.

It's the "Me-Me-Me Generation" that's behaving like spoiled children.....

Without the facts we can only speculate.

However, it's true to say that there isn't the respect for the police now that there was; nor do the police respect the citizens, and the traditional rights and common laws that protect the citizens as they should these days.

The UK has a strong tradition of policing by consent. And of having a constabulary fully accountable to the citizens.

It becomes a chicken and egg questions, which easily escalates when that changes.

Well, what we don't know what he had been up to before he was arrested, although I have seen a photograph of him adopting a remarkably aggressive posture towards two policeman prior to his arrest.

Incidentally, central to the protest was Jeremy Corbyn's brother, who was arguing that the virus was a result of the 5G programme!

Why all the UK police have the beard?

Have you been in the UK lately? All men under the age of 35 seem to be wearing beards - there is nothing sinister in it; it is a cultural / hipster thing.

How few months have passed since the middle-class morons of Extinction Rebellion managed to bring Central London to a standstill, with NO legal consequences whatsoever....Not only that, the police were even filmed doing street dances with the climate terrorists.

Go and demonstrate for your basic human rights and you end up behind bars in no time at all.

As the sheep of MSM say, "welcome to the 'new normal'".

An equally pertinent question might be why the chap in the middle of the group (who I understand is a well connected proponent of the argument that 5G is responsible for all the ills of Covid 19) hasn't combed his hair since 1979? Perhaps it is a protest at Margaret Thatcher's accession to power?

The average beard is dirtier and carries more bacteria than a toilet seat according to a 2015 study, so next time a bearded policeman asks you to move on, I would do as he says or you could end up with a greater infection than covid-19.

I love the fact the very left wing Corbyn idiot was there with his pals wanting the lockdown to stop ,funny how the left wing unions dont want their members to go back to work. the left can never seem to make up their minds.

Say hello to the new normal - a police state ruled over by a vainglorious, lying, dictatorial bully aided and abetted by an increasingly out-of-control and thuggish constabulary.

Wild horses wouldn't drag me back.

It is almost amusing that when the news is about a small group of farangs being moved on by police at Pattaya beach, there are cries of arrest/imprison/deport them! They should abide by the law!

A large group assemble in London and refuse to disperse when the police ask them. There are cries of police state! police brutality! etc.

Do you honestly think that 3 police officers would pile in and force a person to the ground with no good reason? Especially with the amount of cameras there were there.

I was still in school in the 80s but I can remember the thuggish tactics of the police during the miners' strike. There is nothing new about the police wading in, truncheons drawn, when the proles threaten the establishment.

5 days ago - Read the latest London stories, Railway worker and mother-of-one died 'after being spat on by man with Covid-19' on ITV News, videos, stories ...

The incident is well covered in the UK media.

Covid 19 is real enough over here in London. My lifelong pal's older brother just died of it and two of my friends aged 52 and 74 have recently recovered from it.

So carrying a sign means you're subject to police brutality. Got it.
