Chonburi: Cute slow lorises left to starve after renters moved out

Animal welfare experts were called after a landlord went to inspect his property in the Surasak sub-district of Sri Racha, Chonburi on Saturday.

Some people who rented the property from Sarah Sawangthit had left a cage for him.

It contained two wide eyed and starving slow lorises.

The creatures were taken in to care by Padet Laithong who is the director of an animal welfare center.

He said that keeping such restricted creatures was illegal and those that do can be fined 40,000 and jailed for four years.

Well, I'm sure they know who was renting the property.

Probably won't be worth anyone's time or effort to investigate it though.

Relieved. Chinese would have made soup out of them.

Used to see them being carried around in town and used to earn money by getting tourists interested in them, and taking pictures. These may have just been pets but very cruel to abandon them.

I lost my believe in any *higher ups* trying to do good. Guess he is looking to sell them with a big profit margin.

Years ago saw couple doing that money making trick in front of Central Pattaya.

These are endangered species. I made a report to a wildlife protection foundation based in Bangkok. Nothing came of it. Seems those little animals also secrete some sort of "palm grease" attractive to folks dressed in brown.

poor little things. Frigin scum leaving them there. Maybe if there truly is karma then the low lives that left these creatures there will themselves reincarnate ads some small animal and be treated in the same way.

Cute little animals but their number is infinitesimal compared to the illegal animal trade out of China and SE Asia.  There are videos on YouTube.  Watch one and you will be shocked at the numbers and varieties of animals smuggled to various countries.  It's too bad that there isn't much feeling that the animals lives should be preserved and the animals should have decent living conditions.  Just look at the conditions the animals live in in various Asian wet markets including the one here in Bangkok.  Go down and have a look.  You should be revolted by their condition.

What dose a slow loris eat ...? former owners I hope????

Your name says it all

I suppose with the lack of work then this will become more common.

A cut of a 40K 'fine' might interest a member of Pattaya's bandits-in-brown.

so if they were 'ugly' lorises no problem with the starvation?
